This position provides part-time secretarial support services to the Department of Physical Education and Sport (PES) within the College of Health Professions.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Three years of qualifying experience or a combination of education and experience that equates to three years.

Experience with Microsoft Word.

Customer service experience.

Organizational skills with strong attention to detail.

Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to project a positive attitude.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with accurate results.

Ability to compose, proofread and edit correspondence.

Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of specific software programs and/or mainframe/systems skills (i.e. Excel, SAP, SLATE).

Demonstrated ability to maintain web pages.

Duties & Responsibilities

Processes faculty, staff and student payrolls for the department with assistance from the chair, particularly for summer school.

Assists the various units of the department with preparation of class schedules and keeps databases, stat packages, faculty loads, and rooms updated for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Assists the graduate coordinator with processing and monitoring progress of applicants to the graduate program.

Processes curriculum items and attends college curriculum meetings when PES items are on the table.

Distributes requests for book orders for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, makes order forms, and sends to the UC Bookstore in a timely fashion.

Processes requests for book desk copies for faculty and asks for desk copy replacements to send to the Bookstore.

Keeps graduate student databases updated including files on all who have signed major and minors in the PES department along with incomplete and deferred grade papers, removing them when they are completed by each student.

Assists with processing contracts for new hires, graduate assistants, temporary faculty, etc.

Prepares supply orders for paper, pencils, pens, etc. for all PES faculty members.

Prepares exams as needed for faculty.

Assists work study students and GSA's with various office tasks including copying, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.

The Department of Physical Education and Sport is the leading institution in the State of Michigan for the preparation of health and physical education teachers (HPE) and sport managers (SM). The HPE program is growing in number, boasting the highest pass rate among Michigan institutions on the teacher certification test. The Sport Management program places graduates in such prestigious institutions as the PGA, International Olympic Committee, and professional sports teams. The SM program offers a major degree, a minor, and a Master's degree in Sport Administration. The department also offers a minor degree in Athletic Coaching.
