The Department of Animal Sciences seeks candidates for an Administrative Support Specialist I/II position to manage the daily operation of the Department of Animal Sciences office while assisting the Department Head and faculty members with any tasks necessary to support instruction,research, and extension programming.

Essential Functions

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

* Assisting the Department Head, faculty and staff with departmental event management, including advertising and promotion.

* Development of communication resources for departmental marketing, including an electronic newsletter and social media management.

* Providing support to faculty, staff, and graduate students.

* Serve as departmental liaison with Dean's office, AU Telecom, AU OIT, AU Access Control, AU Mail Services, express mail providers, and other outside providers.

* Scheduling all Animal Science courses each semester.

* Managing undergraduate/graduate/international student hiring processes.

* Facilitating building maintenance requests and tracking completion, and serving as the departmental point of contact for work order and surplus requests.

* Performs a variety of clerical duties, which may include (but not limited to): typing & correspondence, filing/folders, recordkeeping/compilation/data entry, calendars and scheduling, mail distribution, limited supervision of clerical or student work, other support duties of similar difficulty.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Level I: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in administrative support services.

Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience in administrative support services.

Degrees may substitute for years of experience.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

Minimum Skills and Abilities

The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills and have demonstrated ability to multi-task, set priorities, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team.

Minimum Technology Skills

Basic knowledge of standard office equipment and procedures. Email,

Internet and various software systems.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include: knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MailChimp or other email marketing platforms, Adobe, Access, e-mail, Internet, etc.; familiarity with Auburn University administrative and financial policies, procedures, and the AU Banner system is also desired. Other desired skills are knowledge of various office equipment and ability to work with a diverse group of people.
