Responsible for limited system administration and functions as Department of Safety operational contact with users, to discuss their work requests and to resolve problems. Constantly engages in troubleshooting problems with software and access cards. Checks hardware (card readers) to verify programming. Entering all staff information into access control software, managing access control software for employee, buildings and time schedules. W hat DPS Offers You:

What You'll Do:
  • Responsible for management of the security access control system. Includes determining requirements of badge access rights, ensuring the access control in the Denver Public Schools satisfy requirements of policy.
  • Function as Operational contact with users to discuss requests and resolve problems.
  • Serve as technical expert in programming and controlling the access control software. Develop and recommend access control policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot programming of groups (schools, time, and departments) and card readers when issues with access exist. Coordinate with Vendor and software company on necessary programming changes
  • Analyze historical data from the access control system to determine areas of weakness and solutions.
  • Issue access control cards to employees and contractors according to established security protocols. Enter ID and access information to district wide database for access control system.
  • Develop and conduct scheduled, requested and investigative audits of the program to ensure misuse is not occurring
  • Coordinate communication with vendor responsible for any programming of access system components.
  • Develop and draft process for the access control system to enable school leaders or designees to independently fulfill access requests for their building.
What You'll Need:
  • Minimum Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field.
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of one year of experience in Security Technology, preferably in access control, including experience troubleshooting, isolating and diagnosing problems
  • Must attend and obtain Open Options System Administrator Training within the first 90 days of hire (department will schedule and fund this requirement).
  • Knowledge with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines
  • The ability to take responsibility for one's own performance
  • Work collaboratively with others on a team
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information
  • Working knowledge of Access Control Functions
  • Working Knowledge of Personnel Security Principles and associated processing systems.
  • Customer Service experience
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills, ability to brief personnel with clarity and answer subsequent questions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of computer, voice and cabled systems.
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting techniques to isolate and diagnose system problems
  • Ability to recognize, analyze and solve computer-related problems
  • Understand all policies and operating procedures of Denver Public Schools and the Safety & Security Department within 60 days of hire.
  • Willing to travel for training as necessary.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position within the DPS School District and mandatory position requirements include: a copy of current Driving Record at time of hire and while employed that reflects a driving record that meets the district insurability requirements a, clear CBI criminal/background investigation and compliance with Drug Free/Pre-hire and Random Drug testing conducted throughout duration of assignment.
