The second largest city in New England, Worcester is home to 11 institutions of higher learning and is increasingly recognized for its growing healthcare and biotechnology communities, its thriving cultural scene, and as a vibrant food hub.Job Description:Reporting to the Director of Admission, the Admission Counselor will focus on engagement in a range of on- and off-campus admissions and recruitment activities designed to present the Clark University undergraduate educational experience to prospective students, their parents, counselors, and alumni; perform counselor-of-the-day duties on a regularly scheduled basis. The Admission Counselor will analyze and review applications to the University's undergraduate program in a manner consistent with institutional policies and priorities.In addition to regular recruitment activities, the Admission Counselor will have an Access and Inclusion focus, and will be responsible for liaising with key Clark University offices, staff, and faculty to ensure that Clark provides an inclusive and supportive admission and transition experience for traditionally under-represented and underserved students. Along with the Director, they will act as a liaison between Clark University admissions and off campus partners including Community Based Organizations, High Schools and college access programs, building awareness of and connections to the programs and activities that promote access, inclusion and success for students from under-represented and underserved populations. The Admission Counselor will also help coordinate and execute Expedition Clark, Clark's Access and Inclusion Overnight program. Multicultural Recruitment:
  • Assist in developing and organizing on-campus events that support the recruitment, enrollment and success of students from diverse and under-represented backgrounds.
  • Liaise with Clark University offices, staff, and faculty that currently support multicultural student success.
  • Maintain effective partnerships with community-based-organizations (CBOs) and secondary schools that support the college search and college access for under-represented students.
Travel and Recruitment
  • Research trends in assigned geographic territory.
  • Plan all logistics associated with recruitment travel within assigned geomarkets and other regions as needed.
  • Travel to college fairs, high school visits, alumni events and other off campus recruitment activities as needed.
  • Communicate with prospective students and families, school counselors in assigned geographic regions.
Application Review
  • Read, evaluate, rate and make recommendations to the Vice President for Admissions and Financial Aid and the Admissions Committee on applicants from assigned geographic territories and others assigned by the Director of Admissions.
  • Make judgments on the admissibility of student applicants on the basis of institutional policy and independent analysis of applicant potential for success.
Counselor of the Day Duty
  • Serve as host and resource to all visiting students and families who visit Clark University on the dates of assigned Counselor of the Day duty coverage.
  • Conduct group information sessions and one on one admissions interviews.
  • Provide phone coverage on scheduled coverage days.
  • Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituents on campus
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1-3 years professional experience with Admissions, Student Life or other related professional experience.
  • Willingness to travel and possess a valid Driver's License.
  • Strong public speaking skills; excellent writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Willingness and desire to learn new skills to enhance team performance.
  • Proven time management skills and team-oriented attitude.
  • Prior experience working with and contributing to a diverse workplace with the ability to interact effectively with a broad range of constituent groups; ability to build and maintain professional relationships with multiple constituencies both on and off campus.
