Job Duties
To manage and coordinate all phases of the admissions process for VSDB including providing information and tours to prospective families, students, and school systems, facilitating the initial application, collaborating on the VSDB TEMP experience and completing the final enrollment to VSDB.
Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications listed below in order to be successful and effective in this position. It is critical that candidates be able to interact professionally with the public and be familiar with Special Education services as well as the student population that VSDB serves.
Minimum Qualifications
* High School diploma or GED certificate.
* Demonstrated working knowledge of Special Education regulations and their application to policies of school programs under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent.
* Demonstrated ability to properly implement policies and procedures of school standards under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and interact professionally with the public, students, parents, schools, faculty, staff, and governmental regulatory agencies to provide policy and educational program information
* Demonstrated effective and broad scope working knowledge of MS Office Suite and Google applications.
* Demonstrated working knowledge of student information systems (PowerSchool preferred).
* Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information
* Demonstrated ability to accurately prepare written work, materials, memorandums, letters and reports for review by the Superintendent
* Demonstrated ability in record management systems and the ability to adhere to the Library of Virginia Records Retention Guidelines
* Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage projects as directed by the Superintendent
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and/or spoken English
* Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team.
* Demonstrated ability to follow established policies and procedures (school, agency, state)
* Demonstrated ability to manage, with training, and to monitor VSDB social media to include the VSDB website and FaceBook page in consultation with the Superintendent and Family Engagement Specialist
* Ability to schedule and conduct tours of the VSDB with a focus on VSDB programs and services offered to prospective families, students, and school systems.
* Ability to represent VSDB's programs and services as a vendor at conferences, community events, and workshops.
* Ability to coordinate and manage purchases for VSDB promotional items under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent
* Ability to plan for and manage the departmental budget in compliance with state procurement and finance policies under the supervision and approval of the Superintendent.
* Ability to perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking and bending
* Ability to work various shifts and/or participate to the greatest extent possible in meetings, conference calls, or on campus to address emergency situations after normal work hours or on weekends or holidays.
* Proficiency level of Intermediate in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire this level within three years
* Completes/attends all required/scheduled training according to stated due dates or as scheduled in accordance with the directives of the Training Coordinator and/or direct supervisor.
Additional Considerations
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree with coursework in human services or educational field preferred. (Considerable experience in a special education setting or the educational environment may substitute for this requirement)
