Job Description:
The Admissions Counselor is a vital member of the GU's Admissions department, providing counsel and advice to prospective students and their families while guiding them through the enrollment process. As the Admissions Counselor, this position is the first impression for many potential students. TheCounselor must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and relate well to prospective and continuing students as well as administration, faculty, and staff.Additionally, the Admissions Counselor will conduct various public presentations representing the University at college day/night programs at high schools, colleges, and college fairs. These outreach efforts focus on increasing enrollment by attracting academically strong students from diverse backgrounds who value character and service. Due to the professional duties of this position, evening and weekend hours may be required.Greenville University is an unabashedly Christian, academically focused, university of the arts, sciences, and professions, affiliated with the Free Methodist Church. Requirements
  • Recognize that any activity related to the role and scope of the Admissions Office is a personal responsibility; mature conduct and professional work are expected at all times. This position requires that the person is actively participating in a wide variety of social media activities such as podcasting and Instagram. Therefore, Admissions staff members must take care as well to ensure that personal use of social media does not negatively impact the workplace, or the institution.
  • Travel to target areas and participate in new student recruitment events (high school visits, churches, and college fairs).
  • Support recruitment efforts, including campus tours and on- and off-campus events as needed, to ensure guests have a positive experience.
  • Communicate with prospective students at various stages of the admissions cycle.
  • Develop and implement special projects to support student recruitment as neededMaintain current knowledge and training of University and campus-wide systems used for recruitment and admissions to ensure data accuracy.
  • Assist in evaluating program effectiveness, assessing outcomes, and developing improved programming to achieve goals.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
  • An understanding and appreciation of Christian higher education.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Outstanding people skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both spoken and written; must be able to speak clearly and be understood over the telephone.
  • Ability and desire to work effectively in a challenging, goal-oriented sales environment.
  • Creative and enthusiastic.
  • Computer skills; especially Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • An understanding of how to responsibly utilize Social Media in a work environment.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to manage time well on a varying work schedule.
