DATE: August 2024JOB DESCRIPTIONS: Admissions Counselor (NYC-based)DEPARTMENT: AdmissionsREPORTS TO: Associate Director of AdmissionsSCHEDULE: 35 minimum hours per week. Travel is needed. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.SALARY: $52,000/ YEARPOSITION SUMMARY: Reports to Associate Director of Admissions. Engage, counsel, and enroll prospective students who will benefit from matriculation in the degree programs of the College. Represent the College at recruitment events across the country while working independently and as a member of a team.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as a primary contact for prospective students and applicants to the College. Counsel students, conduct portfolio reviews, and promote the various undergraduate programs at SVA. Maintain in-depth knowledge of the curriculum, facilities, faculty, and alumni for each program.Represent the University at college fairs, high school visits, and other recruitment events throughout the region, including out-of-state travel.Perform administrative office duties such as data entry, filing, receiving phone calls, and answering a high volume of emails.Support the Associate Director of Admissions as needed with customized outreach strategies that engage prospective students and applicants.Schedule and deliver in-depth presentations about the College at high schools and two-year colleges across the country.Represent the College at National Portfolio Day events, college fairs, and other recruitment events. Weekend work and travel is required throughout the fall and winter.Accurately maintain prospective student and applicant records in Salesforce â tracking contact points, outreach, and application materials.Evaluate and critique applicant portfolios. Review completed applications for admission and scholarship consideration.Review applications for transfer admission and evaluate transcripts to award transfer credit. Assist Manager of Transfer Admissions as needed.Establish and maintain positive relationships with instructors and department chairs at educational institutions across the country.Assist with the development and planning of teacher workshops, Pre-College projects, tours, and recruitment events.Maintain good working knowledge of policies across campus in order to assist applicants through the enrollment and registration process.Address inter-departmental staff and Department Chair inquiries as they arise.Maintain flexibility to perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree is required; a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) strongly preferred. LICENSES: Must have a valid US Driver's License. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Directly related work experience in the visual arts and/or arts education preferred.Interest and commitment to the goals of higher education.Computer literacy.Familiarity with Apple platforms and ability to work with Keynote, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Office Suite.Strong administrative skills are required with close attention to detail.Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.Good presentation skills and high comfort with public speaking.Ability to work well with diverse constituencies and practice inclusivity in all settings.Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Flexibility and willingness to travel extensively, and to work evening and weekend hours. WORK SCHEDULE: This is an in-person role based in SVA's Admissions Office in Manhattan with a high component of travel throughout approximately 8 to 9 months of the year.The work week consists of three days spent in the office and two days working remotely, contingent on the employee's recruitment travel schedule. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 50 lbs.Must be able to drive or fly by airplane for long periods of time.Ability to work outside of normal office hours, work evenings and/or weekends.Clear verbal and auditory communication may be required for tasks like answering phones, attending meetings, and interacting with students and colleagues in person or virtually.College administrative offices are generally open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. While supervisors are responsible for ensuring that departmental services are available during these hours, they may vary these hours to meet the specific needs of their department.During working hours employees should, because of an emergency, make their whereabouts known at all times.While working remotely, you will be required to maintain the same hours of work as would be performed if you would be working in the office; follow the department's procedures in completing assigned job tasks, and be available during the employee's working hours via the department's established communication methods (i.e. Google chat, phone, etc.) WORKING AT SVA:The School of Visual Arts has been a leader in the education of artists, designers, and creative professionals for more than seven decades.
