Job Description: SUMMARY Working under the direction of the FWPD Captain and Civilian Supervisor, incumbent supplies safety and adult supervision to children prior to and directly after school at dangerous street crossings. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Supervises children at busy crossing intersections;
- Familiarizes self with intersections;
- Reports irregularities to supervisor, i.e., broken stop lights, torn down stop signs;
- Supplies safety and supervision to young children.
MARGINAL DUTIES Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Any combination of education or experience equivalent to graduation from high school;
- Ability to physically move quickly to prevent young children from running out into traffic;
- Ability to read and understand policies, rules, regulations, laws, and instructions which apply to safety techniques;
- Knowledge of traffic and pedestrian control safety techniques;
- Knowledge of traffic and pedestrian direction in public street.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
