Job Description:
CLASS TITLE: ADULT CROSSING GUARD BASIC FUNCTION: Monitor student behavior at traffic intersections; escort children across the street when coming and going from school; assure student safety as they cross. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: E=essential duty Individual positions may not perform all of the duties listed nor do these examples include all responsibilities of positions in this class. Escort children safety across the street; monitor traffic flow and signals to assure safe crossing. E Stand in the middle of the roadway to halt traffic flow and permit children to pass. E Work cooperatively with local police department in understanding and administering traffic safety rules. E Report vehicles not obeying signals as assigned. Call for assistance in the event of an accident or emergency situation; assist in first aid when children are injured as assigned. Report unruly students to appropriate site personnel. Adhere to established safety procedures. Perform related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: Traffic and safety laws and rules. ABILITY TO: Assist children with safe crossing at an assigned intersection or crosswalk. Communicate effectively. Understand and work within scope of authority. Observe traffic and safety laws and rules. Comprehend and follow instructions. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent or sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid First Aid Certificate issued by an authorized agency. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Outdoor work environment. Subject to seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing and walking for extended periods of time. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
