Current funding goes through June 2025, with a possibility of renewal. Location: Family Success Center, 1520 Verde Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80910 Job Summary: Adult Education Teacher teaches English as a Second Language, Adult Basic Education, High School Equivalency preparation, and/or Digital Literacy. Adult Education teachers work under the direction of the Coordinator of Adult and Community Education and are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the District. Adult Education Teachers are also responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach adult learners of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each learner the opportunity to master the objectives of the course. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet all scheduled classes/labs and provide instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the District-approved course outline.
- Use teaching methods and media designed to reach learners of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each learner the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.
- Inform students of course requirements through a course syllabus, including specific objectives, means of attaining objectives, and methods of instruction.
- Maintain appropriate proficiency and up-to-date knowledge in the subject matter area.
- Writes lesson plans, grades assignments, and advises students.
- Administers learner intake and skills assessment testing; Evaluate learners on a continuing basis to allow them to be aware of their own progress.
- Completes periodic assessment and evaluation of learners' skills acquisition.
- Maintain and submit records as required by policy and procedures; Prepares monthly department reports.
- Recommend instructional materials, textbooks, appropriate instructional equipment, and supportive reference materials.
- Participates in informational outreach activities regarding Harrison School District Two's adult education services.
- Promote equal opportunity education within the scope of assigned responsibilities.
- Enters instructional hours and monitors assessment data in LACES databases.
- Demonstrate evidence and understanding of the concepts of diversity and multiculturalism and their application in the workplace.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors' degree from an accredited college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's degree in TESOL, education, or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of one year of full-time or part-time classroom experience teaching adults is preferred.
- Colorado Adult Basic Education Authorization is preferred but not required.
- Transcripts required.
- Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
