We empower people to transform their lives through innovative work and housing programs.Ready, Willing & Able(RWA) provides a working way home for men with long histories of incarceration, homelessness, and unemployment. At the core of this 12-month residential program is paid work-complemented by holistic social services, career and workforce development training, continuing education, and sobriety support.
  • Teachesone5-weekComputerSkillsClass
    • Conducts outreach for the Computer Skills Class, informs staff and trainees about the importance of the mandatory nature of the class
    • Liaiseswithotherdepartmentsregardingtraineeneedsandprogress
    • Maintainsstudent/participantcasenotesinthedatabase,recordsprogramdata,andother statistical records.
    • Updatescurriculaasneededorrequested
    • Facilitatesoneononetutoringsessionsasneeded
    • Facilitates the transition to Online Computer Skills Class for qualifying trainees. Monitors student progress as they move though the course independently
  • HighSchoolEquivalencyPrepInstructor
    • Teaches the science, social studies, reading, and writing sections of the HSE Prep Class
    • Providesback-upandsupportforHSEMathInstructor
    • Coordinatesclassrosterswithvariousdepartments
    • PlacesMetroCardandlatenightpassrequestsforclassesasneeded
    • Maintainsstudent/participantcasenotesinthedatabase,recordsprogramdata,andotherstatisticalrecordsasneeded,including,butnotlimitedto:
      • Dailyandweeklyattendancetracking
      • Classstatus
      • Courseevaluationnotes
  • Conductsindividualtutoringsessionsasneededforlowliteracy,vocationaltraining,pre-ABE,or HSE
  • Tailors content for each individual lesson for each trainee for each session
  • Clears participants for training and enrolls into targeted training upon session completion
  • Clears and enrolls participants in higher level courses; either ABE or HSE Class
  • Maintainsstudent/participantcasenotesinthedatabase,recordsprogramdata,andotherstatisticalrecordsasneeded,including,butnotlimitedto:
    • Dailyandweeklyattendancetracking
    • Classstatus
    • Monthly evaluation notes
  • HSE Test Coordinator/Liaison
    • CreatesandmaintainsrelationshipswithHSEtestingsites
    • StayscurrentonHSEstandardsandtestchanges
  • Follows up with trainees post-test, helps trainees check their scores
Administrative:
  • Provides career, vocational, and educational counseling by determining trainees' educationalandprofessionalqualificationsandtransferableskillsbycompletingEducationandTraining intakes with trainees
  • ActsasEducation&TrainingDepartmentresourceforclientsandstaffmembersalike
  • Assistsinlessondevelopmentasneeded
  • FacilitatesmonthlyEducationandTrainingorientationsasneeded
  • Attendsdepartmentalandfacilitymeetings
  • Performs other duties related to the goals of the Education and Training Team as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Commitment to The Doe Fund's mission, purpose, and values
  • Bachelor'sdegree required
  • Mustbeabletoteach3-4eveningsperweekfrom6-9PM
  • Must be willing to travel to all residential facilities (Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Harlem)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching adults in non-traditional settings or workforce development related work
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously, set priorities and meet demanding deadlines within a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills and the proven ability to synthesize and accurately present relevant information required
