Summary: As an Advanced Practice Provider, you will function as an essential member of the team in the practice setting or on units as indicated by physician needs. The Trauma APP (Advanced Practice Provider) (Tr-APP) will be credentialed as a member of the Trauma / Acute Care Surgery (ACS) Service. The position is open to any licensed certified registered nurse practitioner (CRNP) or physician assistant (PA-C). The Tr-APP functions clinically under the direction of the Trauma Program Medical Director (TPMD), who also participates in the credentialing process. This individual provides clinical care to trauma and ACS patients and is expected to participate in the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) Program. The Tr-APP may work in any of the following areas: Emergency Department, ICU, CVU, PCU, Med/Surg, OR, Outpatient Trauma Clinic. Other information: QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner program required
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner preferred
  • Maintain a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, both Medical and Osteopathic preferred
  • Collaborative agreement approved through the state within 3 months of start date required
  • National certification required
  • DEA required within 6 months of start date
  • Current Healthcare provider CPR through the American Heart Association required at time of hire
  • Maintains ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certification preferred
Non-Procedural Duties - The Trauma-APP is expected to perform the following non-procedural duties:
  • Evaluate trauma patients in the emergency department
  • Participate as a Core Trauma Team Member during trauma activations
  • Under the direction of the trauma surgeon/emergency medicine physician, function as trauma team leader during trauma activations
  • Perform daily clinical rounds on the inpatient Trauma Service (ICU, CVU, PCU, Med/Surg)
  • Manage patients in the outpatient Trauma Clinic / Orthopedic Fracture Clinic
  • Complete admission history & physicals for trauma patients who require admission to the Trauma Service
  • Complete discharge summaries for trauma patients on the day of discharge, including active involvement with patient/family education Participate in education of staff specific to the management of trauma patients
Procedures- The Trauma-APP is expected to perform the following procedures in the emergency department or inpatient units listed above:
  • First assist in the operating room
  • Focused Abdominal Sonography for Trauma (FAST) examination
  • Placement of urinary catheters
  • Placement of nasogastric / orogastric tubes
  • Repair of simple lacerations
  • Suture / staple removal
  • Insertion of central venous IV lines
  • Insertion of arterial lines
  • Tube thoracostomy
  • Chest tube removal
  • Wound dressing changes
  • Assistance with reduction of fractures / dislocations Splinting of fractures
