Recognizing and pursuing diversity, however, are not enough; we seek to transcend mere tolerance of differences and aspire to a celebration of the varied appearances, abilities, perspectives, and values that characterize our community.Job Description: Advancement AssociateThe Browning School seeks a talented and dynamic individual to coordinate the successful implementation of a number of special events throughout the year for alumni, parents, donors, and friends. This position reports to the Director of Alumni Affairs and Special Events, with a dotted line report to the Chief Advancement Officer. The candidate should enjoy working in a collaborative and supportive office and be able to handle multiple and competing responsibilities. This is a part-time (approximately 20 - 25 hrs/week) position, with a flexible schedule, one likely to change weekly, and some evening hours required. Compensation is commensurate with relevant experience, with the salary range being $40,000 - 45,000 for part-time employment, with hours varying week to week, but never to exceed 25 hrs/week. Although this is considered a year-round position, duties will be concentrated over approximately 40 weeks, beginning late August and ending late June. Must be able to work and problem-solve independently while contributing as a team member in a demanding office. Experience in alumni affairs and event planning or at an independent school is preferred, as is prior friend-raising or fundraising experience. The ideal candidate should be well-organized, pay keen attention to detail, and have experience in overseeing events and managing, motivating, and cultivating students, alumni, volunteers and/or donors. While familiarity/experience with an independent school or higher education setting would be an asset, it is not mandatory. A high degree of computer literacy (fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, etc.) as well as knowledge of and experience using Raiser's Edge or a similar database, along with Mailchimp (or similar email marketing tool) and Squarespace, is preferred. Advancement Associate Responsibilities
  • Assist the Advancement team in increasing Alumni support and identifying potential Alumni Major gift prospects; actively solicit alumni for annual gifts.
  • Alongside the Director of Alumni Affairs and Special Events, coordinate the successful implementation of special events throughout the year for alumni, parents, donors, and friends.
  • Create and distribute event email communications, including RSVPs and reminders.
  • Track RSVPs, and depending on registration levels, follow-up individually with those who have not RSVPed in order to bolster event attendance.
  • Create and prepare name tags for printing.
  • Staff special events and assist with set-up and onsite management of events.
  • Identify and maintain working relationships with vendors. Brainstorm options for event venues and and obtain quotes for review.
  • Assist the Director of Alumni Affairs and Special Events as well as other members of the Advancement team with other duties as assigned.
  • The incumbent will make important decisions researching and investigating logistical alternatives and managing a sizable budget, so needs to be fiscally savvy.
