Advancement Coordinator FLSA: Non-Exempt The City Bar Justice Center (CBJC) seeks an enthusiastic and organized individual with passion for and curiosity about nonprofit development, and who is committed to equal access to justice, to join our growing team as an Advancement Coordinator. CBJC annually provides high-quality, free civil legal services benefiting over 25,000 New Yorkers who lack the resources to hire private counsel. CBJC also relies on partnerships with the City Bar, law firms, corporate legal departments, the courts, and other stakeholders. In the past year, over 2,200 pro bono attorneys donated services to support clinics and client matter work drawn from CBJC's dozen civil legal services projects. The Advancement Coordinator plays a critical role in helping both to secure and to publicize the impact of donated funds and volunteer efforts that support the organization's mission and client services. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Advancement Coordinator's principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain CBJC's core development processes, including:
    • Ensure high-quality donor relations and data integrity through the efficient collection and recording of all incoming donations and timely issuing of thank you letters and tax receipts.
    • Manage, maintain, and assume primary responsibility for operating CBJC's advancement database (Bloomerang).
    • Assist in managing CBJC's fundraising schedule and work plans for major events and campaigns, including the annual gala, annual appeal, Veterans Day program, and year-end appeal.
    • Develop and efficiently manage mailing lists and solicitation communications, and timely produce reports to capture fundraising developments and progress.
    • Assist management in maintaining an efficient and timely grant application and reporting process, and assist in streamlining donor data by developing and/or implementing new organization and information systems and/or assisting with the migration to a donor database system.
  • Support strategic communications and development initiatives of the Advancement team:
    • Assist the Communications and Outreach Associate with content creation, social media posts, scheduling, and donor communications pertaining to CBJC's mission and impact.
    • Assist the Director of Advancement with prospect research to identify new individual, law firm, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities.
    • Assist the Director of Advancement and Director of Operations with event management, including working with vendors, creating and managing timelines, and logistics.
  • Other City Bar Justice Center administrative tasks as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree or substantially equivalent work experience in a professional setting, with a minimum of 1-2 year's administrative experience required (relevant internships acceptable).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high energy and passion for supporting a mission-driven nonprofit organization, and ability to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively with a team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, and superb organizational and time management skills.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to anticipate needs, efficiently multi-task, work well under pressure, and meet time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Office 365; data management and analytics skills preferably including experience organizing and maintaining databases (i.e., CRM platforms).
  • Demonstrated commitment to nonprofit/public interest work, serving communities that are under-resourced, and advancing racial equity and social and economic justice.
The City Bar Justice Center has a hybrid work environment. Candidates for this position must be available for in-person work in Manhattan on a hybrid schedule requiring roughly 2-3 days of scheduled in-office work per week, with the balance of time work-from-home or involving occasional other local work-related travel. Availability outside standard work hours may occasionally be required. This position is open for immediate hire. The annualized salary range for this position is $48,000-$52,000 for a 35-hour workweek, based on skills and experience.
