The Center for Advocacy, Response and Education ( CARE ) provides confidential, free, and voluntary services and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual harassment. The CARE team assists survivors in understanding and navigating reporting options, resources both on and off campus, and help promote the academic success and personal wellness of survivors.The CARE Advocate provides confidential advocacy and support to students, faculty, and staff who have been impacted by sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking. The Advocate will also assist in organizing, developing, and presenting ongoing awareness campaigns and programs to address sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking as well as general outreach, as well as help support the peer led, prevention education, initiatives.As an Advocate you will:
  • Provide trainings for students, faculty and staff
  • Organize and implement department events throughout the year, such as recognizing Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking Awareness Months
  • Create and conduct focused outreach and workshops to spread awareness of CARE and the services they provide
  • Assist with requests from campus partners for collaborations and trainings
  • Work with undergraduate peer educators and various student groups

  • Bachelor's degree in health promotion, social work, family studies and human services, women's studies, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or related field.
  • Experience working in a in a support role for those impacted by trauma, or similar type of experience.
  • Experience or knowledge with crisis intervention.
  • Experience advising individuals/groups in understanding complex procedures and processes.
  • Ability to work as a team member to build stronger working relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of serving students of diverse identities through culturally aware and responsive, developmentally appropriate approaches.
  • Ability to manage a caseload.
  • Strong verbal, written communication skills, including the ability to develop and present information to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as a team member to build stronger working relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, ability to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines and immediate needs.
  • Ability to independently make sound decisions based on best practices, laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
  • Commitment to on-going professional development and commitment to staying current in field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in social work ( MSW ), student affairs/higher education, sociology, psychology or related field.
  • Experience in advocacy role supporting people impacted by power-based violence.
  • Experience working in educational or prevention role with an emphasis in power-based violence.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with multiple agencies to aid in coordinating effective responses for clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to balance advocating for multiple clients, responding to crisis calls, scheduled client appointments and walk-in clients and manage caseloads.
  • Knowledge of best practices related to victim advocacy
  • Familiarity with the ethical standards for victim advocacy.
  • Strong crisis intervention and consultation skills.
