General Job Description: This individual will create adult individual learning plans and assess and monitor student progress. Responsible for teaching math, writing, reading, social studies, and science for GED preparation or refresher skills. Assists with transition from Aspire classes and GED obtainment into post-secondary enrollment/employment opportunities. The class meets year round on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. Responsibilities: - Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Assess students according to Aspire policy and placement of each participant into the appropriate level in the program.
- Create and implement lesson plans.
- Maintain records of the appropriate student data and ensure that all student records are accurate and current.
- Conduct intake procedures for new participants.
- Provide support services to the adult learner and refer students who need services that cannot be satisfied by our program to other agencies.
- Maintain knowledge of Aspire policies to ensure that accurate information is available to students that inquire about the Aspire program.
- Promote the program and recruit students through networking with local schools and community groups.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Qualifications: - Bachelor Degree is required. A Bachelor Degree in Education, Counseling, or Social Work is preferred.
- Previous experience or knowledge of the Aspire program is preferred.
- Teaching experience with adult learners is preferred.
- Experience teaching basic math skills, algebra, and geometry preferred.
- Applicants must be available to work hours as needed and assigned.
- Meets Aspire program requirements for professional development as a new program employee and professional development as required for the specific assignment.
- Adheres to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
- Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check and complete District requirements for employment.
- Holds or is able to obtain a valid Ohio State Board of Education Adult Education Permit appropriate for the assignment.
- Meets all mandated health screening requirements.
- Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.
- Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.
Salary: Appropriate placement on the Adult Education Intermittent/Hourly Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Compensation is $25.00 per hour, on an as-needed basis. Maximum 839 working hours in an academic year. One-year contract with opportunity for renewal. Other Benefits: State Teachers Retirement System and Worker's Compensation offered. Upon hire, additional benefits may be offered depending upon hours worked, job classification, and placement on the Upper Valley Career Center Salary Schedule. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.
