Job Description:
After School Instructors may work with a group of up to 20 students from TK - 8th grade with daily tasks consisting of but not limited to: Tutoring, homework assistance, and educational enrichment. Instructors must have high energy, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the abilityto maintain a fun and organized atmosphere. Instructors also ensure seamless integration of Catalyst programs with school day activities by sharing district classroom spaces and collaborating closely with school district staff. After School Instructors report to the Site Coordinator at their respective site.Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide tutoring and homework assistance to help students meet national standards.
  • Collaborate with Site Coordinator to create and implement all Catalyst ExpandEd Learning (ExL) curriculum, rules, and procedures, including new curriculum that may be introduced during the school year.
  • Provide students with educational enrichment which may include positive youth development strategies, recreation and prevention activities, and the ability to teach youth positive life skills.
  • Work collaboratively with staff members at site, both internally (Catalyst ExL peers and Catalyst Kids, where applicable) and externally (District staff and teachers).
  • Track students' progress using programmatic protocol.
  • Ensure the students receive consistent supervision and always provides a safe and supported environment.
  • Instructors are responsible for maintaining a safe environment and are required to promptly complete all necessary safety documentation, including injury reports and license-exempt Unusual Incident Reports (UIRs).
  • Track attendance daily, including additional After School Enrichment & Safety (ASES) requirements where applicable.
  • Fill out lesson planning form weekly.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism with students and families.
  • Relay feedback from students and parents to the Site Coordinator, contributing to the continuous improvement of the program.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and district meetings.
  • Support and participate in family and site-based events.
  • Support other sites when needed or called upon if staffing constraints arise.
  • Communicate regularly with the Site Coordinator regarding all aspects of the program at the designated site.
  • Apply approved behavior management techniques to address and support children with challenging behaviors, ensuring a positive and safe learning environment for all students.
  • Undergo and maintain all assigned health and safety, education, and HR trainings in addition to trainings required by the district.
  • Participate in professional development enrichment opportunities to enhance student learning.
  • Prepare and adapt classroom settings, including carrying and arranging furniture (up to 25 pounds) and educational materials, to accommodate mobile classroom needs and create an optimal learning environment.
  • Promote an inclusive environment of teamwork to ensure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is practiced/applied in department operations, programs, and services.
Education & Experience: EducationThe MINIMUM formal relevant education required by the position.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must meet school district's requirements which may vary based on location (i.e. passing an exam, Paraprofessional certification, etc.) College units in education, recreation, child development desired
ExperienceThe MINIMUM relevant experience necessary to qualify for the position.
  • 6+ months' experience working with children preferred
Other Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to solely manage a classroom of up to 20 students, ranging from TK to 8th grade
  • Must be able to express ideas clearly both verbally and in writing, manage sensitive situations with discretion, and foster open communication channels
  • Understanding of behavior management and effective strategies for guiding student behavior
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized with exceptional interpersonal and partnering relationship skills

  • Ability to meet state and district-specific requirements; Fingerprint LIVE SCAN, CPR/First Aid Certification, Medical Certificate/Tuberculosis (TB) test, Mandated Reporter training, Food Handlers Permit (where applicable)
Shift Type: Part Time Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, 1:30pm - 6pm; Wednesday, 1pm - 6pmCompensation: $17.69 - $26.54 hourlyWhat We Offer:
