POSITION SUMMARYBuchanan YMCA is seeking After School Program Leaders for the Chinese Immersion School at DeAvila Elementary (1250 Waller St) and New Traditions Elementary (2049 Grove St).YMCA After School Program Leader provides meaningful and enriching opportunities for youth in YMCA programs that are offered at local elementary and middle schools. The Program Leader will help students develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills by providing assistance, tutoring, and mentorship in the After School Program. Program Leaders will provide academic enrichment and tutoring in classroom groups of up to 20 students, as well as organize and provide outdoor recreational activities in the school yards. Individuals hired for this position will work under the supervision of the Program Site Coordinators and Directors, and will need to be flexible, willing to take initiative, be punctual, and able to make a commitment to work throughout the entire school year.Salary Range: $19.50 to $22 per hourMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 18+ years of age for elementary school programs, 21+ years for middle school programs
- Associate's degree or higher, or High School diploma/equivalent, plus any of following:
- Completed 48 college units verified by transcript
- Passed CA Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)
- Passed District Instructional Aide Exam
- Experience working with youth (elementary or middle school)
- Highly motivated to provide quality program opportunities to youth
- Team player
- Knowledge or expertise in youth development
- Comfortable leading physical activities with youth
- Available daily Monday-Friday during youth program hours; shifts vary ~1:00-6:00 pm
- Willing to participate in bi-annual evaluations and supervision meetings as needed
- Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certification (training available upon hire)
- TB Test clearance
- Fingerprint background check clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development or related field
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other languages strongly preferred
- Knowledge of arts, dance, drama, or sports
- Connections in the local community
