Job DetailsJob LocationMiddle School - San Jose, CAPosition TypeStaffDescriptionThe Harker School is seeking an After School Recreation Leader to join our Middle School Enrichment and Supervision Team for the 2024-2025 school year.Do you like arts and crafts? Do you like hosting or creating fun small events for students to enjoy? How about playing basketball, football, or air hockey in a student game center? Then this is the place for you!Come mentor middle school students (6th-8th) in an after-school setting.Position Summary:This is a part-time position. Duties may include some lunchtime supervision, weekly after-school supervision, and creating fun and engaging games for the students to enjoy. Possible hours of work for lunch supervision are Monday through Friday, 11:50- 1:05. Regular supervision is Monday through Friday, between 1:57 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. This position is 20 to 27 hours a week. Please note that scheduled hours of work, as well as responsibilities, may vary.Expected hourly range: $17.55 - $23.50/hourQualificationsMinimum Qualification Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Enthusiastic, fun, great personality
- Hold current certification in both first aid and CPR; if not, will take the class provided by Harker.
- Ability to communicate and work with groups of all ages and skill levels and provide necessary instruction
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 20lbs
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Able to play and supervise simultaneously while ensuring student safety
- Serve as a positive adult role model and provide leadership, energy, and spirit for students
- Being flexible, open-minded and able to model leadership, positive energy, and spirit
- Implement fun and creative activities for students in the teen center as well as outside areas daily
- Maintain an optimistic and professional outlook with supervisors, staff, parents, students, and all others at The Harker School
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Must be able to take direction from supervisors and other departments directly involved with MS BASE
- Must be self-motivated
- Ability to adapt to change and handle multiple situations and tasks
- Ability to effectively communicate with and understand students and other staff members
- Must have the physical ability to stand for 3 hours or more.
- Must have the ability to walk the school grounds for an extended amount of time
- Physical ability to withstand climate extremes
