DescriptionThis position is part time schedule (2:30pm-6pm ) Position summary: Responsible for caring for the children and implementing the early learning and development program in the classroom. Provide leadership and supervision to teacher assistants within the classroom. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a well rounded curriculum that is developmentally and age appropriate for the children in the classroom.
- Prepare lesson plans in accordance with the Creative Curriculum framework for both indoor and outdoor activities.
- Present weekly lesson plans to the Educational Coordinator for review and assure a copy of all plans is available for review.
- Assure authentic assessment for children is on going and documented in a timely fashion.
- Develop a portfolio system of documentation collection for each child reflecting their developmental progress.
- Complete Ages and Stages Developmental Screening at age appropriate stages.
- Implement the Y Healthy Eating Physical Activity Standards into classroom routine using positive role modeling and the Food and Fun Curriculum.
- Create and update learning centers within classroom in accordance with the ITERS and ECERS Environmental Rating Scale.
- Prepare and deliver a written daily (infants/toddlers) or weekly (preschool) means of communication with families.
- Responsible for ensuring proper sign in and sign out procedures are followed in accordance with DCYF Licensing Regulations.
- Responsible for conducting daily health checks and assuring proper documentation. Prepare and maintain all attendance and meal reports.
- Responsible for attending all staff meetings and trainings. Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspect of professional growth.
- To ensure the health and safety of all the children, i.e. caution regarding unsafe practices and conditions and perform rescue/first aid when necessary.
- Report accidents and injuries and complete incident documentation.
- Communicate professionally, clearly and consistently modeling values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Consistently communicate with families focusing on building supportive relationships through active listening and constantly seeking ways to engage and support all children and their families.
- Understand, enforce and adhere to YMCA policies and procedures in a consistent manner resulting in efficient, professional operations. Role model communication skills and good judgment when describing and enforcing policies. Maintain an organized, clean and safe work place.
- Work in harmony and cooperation with staff, volunteers and members to develop team spirit and a family atmosphere.
Education and/or Experience
- Associate Degree in ECE or Bachelors Degree in ECE or Related Field with at least 15 credits in ECE
- 3 Years experience of supervised experience in a licensed/approved early childhood program or certified family day care program AND have proof of ongoing early childhood staff development
Certifications / Training: YMCA Required Trainings CPR and First Aid Certification-within 1st 30 days of employment and must keep up to date throughout employment. OSHA Training, Child Care Abuse Identification and Prevention Training, Listen First State Required Training and Professional Development: Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards Certificate 20 hours of approved ECE professional development each year
