* (This position is eligible for 16% Non-Standard pay for 26 weeks out of the year)

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This is maintenance and personal services work supervising the operations and maintenance of Peaks-Kenny State Park located in the town of Dover-Foxcroft. Peaks-Kenny State Park is a camping, and day-use, facility featuring picnic facilities, water access, and a state park campground. This position will also provide management support for Katahdin Iron Works State Historical Site. Primary duties include managing park operations; developing community relations; managing park maintenance; interpreting and promoting the park; performing administrative duties; supervising protection and enforcement; managing personnel, planning and managing emergency operations; and supervising all staff training. A good working relationship with the Town of Dover-Foxcroft must be fostered and maintained. Supervision is exercised over eight park positions and many volunteers. Work is performed under general supervision, but the person in this position often works independently to manage the facilities.

Housing: When housing is available, there is an expectation that the position resides in it.

Responsibilities include:

* Managing the very sophisticated park facilities which utilize complex potable water systems, pumped sewage systems, and campsites with electrical and water hook-ups

* Supervising employees

* Providing educational programs to visitors and school groups, serving the public, and working closely with local groups and volunteers

* Coordinating public outreach programs on a statewide level such as Take-It-Outside , Maine Volunteers in Parks/Campground Hosts

* Representing the bureau in job recruitment and at career fairs

Representative tasks include:

* Supervising Park maintenance and operations

* Developing positive community relations

* Managing Park interpretation and promotion

* Providing Park administration

* Supervising protection and enforcement activities

* Directing emergency management activities

* Supervising all staff training

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate's Degree Recreation Management or a related field and a minimum of one year of experience in park operations or a similar related activity, to include supervisory or managerial experience. Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. For the purposes of this classification, a year is defined as being the equivalent of a 25-week or more season.

Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge and qualifications in the following areas:

* Knowledge and experience supervising and managing staff.

* Knowledge and experience maintaining and operating complex infrastructure that includes complex potable water systems, pumped sewage systems, and campsites with electric and water hook-ups.

* Knowledge and experience with rule compliance and enforcement techniques that are consistent with the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands policies on rule compliance and enforcement.
