Position Overview

The Agricultural Loan Officer is responsible for achieving customer service and sales goals as established in the Lending Division's annual operating plan. This individual will perform a variety of duties to meet the agricultural/commercial services needs of business customers while complying with operating policies and procedures established for the commercial services function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Solicits new business from present and prospective customers; maintains ongoing business relationships with present customers in order to take advantage of additional cross-selling opportunities.

* Serves as a member of the organization's sales team; makes group sales calls where these types of calls will improve the opportunity for new business development.

* Establishes and develops relationships with key Centers of Influence (COI's) to provide for mutual referrals to enhance customer relationships.

* Maintains an active role in community affairs to improve company's visibility in the area; serves on various civic committees to increase company community involvement.

* Maintains a thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of all company commercial products and services in order to ascertain customer needs and to sell in conjunction with these needs.

* Assists customers in obtaining specialized services from other company departments as necessary; provides help to customers with specific inquiries or service problems.

* Assists in compiling loan packages and facilitates negotiation of loan structure with applicant; ensures loan agreements are complete and accurate according to company policy; assures timely loan closing and funding activities.

* Assists in line renewals, term loan extensions, collecting financial statements, credit underwriting and evaluation, loan structuring, and exception monitoring.

* Develops and manages agricultural loan accounts which meet established lending requirements and which provide maximum profitability to the company with minimum risk.

* Maintains credit quality and portfolio administration within company guidelines including participation in the collection of delinquent accounts.

* Continues ongoing education to stay abreast of current lending regulations and procedures.

* Continues on going education to stay abreast of agricultural issues that impact our customers and the organization.

* Interviews loan applicants and collects and analyzes financial and related data to determine the general creditability of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request; establishes and negotiates the terms under which credit will be extended, including the costs, repayment, and collateral requirement.

* Maintains a working knowledge of company operating policies and procedures which impact commercial services.

* Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from customers, other company personnel, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.

* Provides sales information on a timely basis in order that this information may be included as part of customer service and sales performance reports.

* Prepares and maintains accurate records of all customer service calls made and meetings held with present and prospective customers.

* Maintains appropriate records and provides assigned reports.

* Communicates with department management, other department managers, and appropriate staff personnel in order to integrate goals and activities.

* Performs tasks, which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.

* Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Education & Qualifications

* A B.S. or B.A. degree in a related field normally required; specialized banking education and training.

* A minimum of two (2) years' experience in related positions normally required.

Skill(s)

Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations, communicative, analytical, judgment, decision making, and sales skills; able to work both independently and with a team; a thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of all company commercial products and services; in depth knowledge and skills in loan administration, loan servicing, and collateral valuation; a working knowledge of company operating policies and procedures which impact commercial services; ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands or arms, use hands to manipulate objects, handle or feel, and lift items weighing 20 lbs. or less; visual, auditory and speaking skills; valid driver's license is required.
