Position Summary The entry level position performs field audits and inspections of a technical nature of grain warehouse keepers and grain dealers. The purpose of these audits is to examine grain inventories and financial records of facilities that buy, sell or store grain to determine compliance with provisions of Wis. Stat. chapter 126, also known as the Agricultural Producer Security Act. This position will diagram and measure grain inventory; examine receipts, settlement sheets, scale tickets, Daily Position Records and related documentation for accuracy and completeness; conduct a full financial audit of accounts, checkbook balances and insurance coverage; and examine all contracts executed to assess proper hedging. Audits are restricted to small, routine or less complex entities, but may also assist other auditors in performing larger or more complex audits. This position may be assigned other tasks of a similar nature.The Level 3 auditor position performs field audits and investigations of a technical nature of grain warehouse keepers and grain dealers. The purpose of these audits is to examine grain inventories and financial records of facilities that buy, sell or store grain, to determine compliance with provisions of Wis. Stat. Chapter 126, also known as the Agricultural Producer Security Act. Many of the businesses audited are large multi-location or multi-state firms. This position functions under general supervision and may train or guide the work of lower-level auditors. This position may also perform financial review analysis of CPA audited and reviewed financial statements filed with the Department. Salary Information The classification for this position is Agriculture Auditor. Agriculture Auditor is in schedule-range 07-04 with starting pay of $29.00 to $31.00 per hour and FLSA status non-exempt. The Agriculture Auditor 3 is in schedule-range 07-03 with starting pay $31.00 to $34.00 per hour with FLSA status exempt. This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.An add-on amount of $0.50 per hour may be paid based upon the employee's successful completion of the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination and possession of the CPA Notification of Grades. Upon earning the CPA certification, an additional add-on amount of $0.50 per hour may be granted to the employee to bring the employee's total add-on amount up to $1.00 per hour.

Qualifications Minimally qualified candidates will have at least one of the following:
- Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance from an accredited post-secondary college/university
OR
- Education, training or work experience in accounting or finance (preparing reports for accounts payable and/or accounts receivable, performing bank reconciliations, preparing or analyzing components of financial statements, and/or conducting audits of accounting records, etc.)
In addition to the minimum qualifications , highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:
- Experience working within the grain industry (commodities market analysis, future pricing, hedging, etc.)
- Experience interpreting and applying rules and/or regulations (state/federal statutes, policies, laws, etc.)
- Experience with conducting financial or compliance audits, preparing financial statements or performing financial statement analysis
- Experience with mathematic fundamentals including the ability to accurately apply formulas
