Agriculture Procurement Specialist

Agriculture Procurement Specialist is responsible for planning and procuring specialty crops directly with farmers. Procurement Specialist must have deep knowledge with commercial farming and ability to screen farmers, negotiate contracts, conduct cost analysis, and coordinate activities. Individual will oversee industrial farming operations including automated harvesting, storage, and transportation.

The role:

  • Job duties include planning and procuring specialty crops directly with farmers and greenhouses.
  • Contracts raw product, focusing on quality, delivered cost, and timing of deliveries.
  • Monitors daily intake and coordinates intake delivery with truckers and plant production.
  • Serves as liaison between Company and suppliers, growers, truckers, and USDA officials.
  • Identifies and screens farmers, audits facilities for quality and safety requirements, and negotiates contracts.
  • Assures that sufficient product is planned, acceptable contracts are issued, and adequate agricultural products are received.
  • Defines requirements for growing and harvesting raw product and seeds.
  • Assists suppliers and growers as needed.
  • Resolves problems and adjusts grievances with suppliers or growers.
  • Maintains appropriate records and files on pertinent information.
  • Travels extensively to oversee procurement in numerous states.
  • Coordinates with other departments to ensure cooperation and timely completion of projects.
  • Holds regularly meetings with key internal department heads to communicate crop plan and crop expectations.
  • Works closely with Production, Quality, and Planning to coordinate crop intake decisions and plans.
  • Works with Global Agronomy Team and growers to increase yield.
  • Understand equipment required for automated harvesting of specialty crops.

About you, as our ideal candidate:

  • Required Qualifications: Requires Bachelor's Degree.
  • Seven or more years' experience in agricultural preferably with growing or procuring sweet potatoes or carrots.
  • Analytical minded, with strong excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations (federal, state, EEOC, FDA, EPA, OSHA, USDA, etc.
  • Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of ERP software.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must speak, read and write in English. Ability to speak Spanish is beneficial.
  • Must demonstrate aptitude to make prompt and competent decisions based upon data.
  • Familiarity with agriculture equipment and maintenance.
