Job Description:
Job Title: Mammography Technician Location: Morristown, NJ 07960 Schedule: Monday-Friday, 5 days a week, with varying shifts (9:30 AM - 5:30 PM, or 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM based on department needs)Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Mammography Technician to perform high-quality mammographic procedures for both inpatient and outpatient settings. The technician will ensure the proper handling and imaging of patients according to department protocols and guidelines. You will be responsible for maintaining safety, accuracy, and patient comfort while working with radiology and mammography equipment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform mammographic procedures on inpatients and outpatients according to established department protocols.
  • Review patient history, prescriptions, and records before each examination to ensure all necessary information is available for radiologist interpretation.
  • Operate radiologic equipment with precision to ensure proper positioning and image quality.
  • Practice universal precautions and aseptic techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Ensure patient safety by following National Patient Safety Goals, including obtaining two patient identifiers before each procedure.
  • Process images using the PAC system and ensure proper documentation of procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues on the Exceptions List daily.
  • Utilize the Breast Reporting System (PenRad), EMR, and PACS for patient records and imaging management.
  • Analyze images for positioning, labeling, and patient identification accuracy.
  • Repeat images when necessary to ensure diagnostic quality.
  • Provide responsive and respectful communication with patients, explaining procedures clearly and addressing their physical, psychological, and emotional needs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring the radiographic equipment and supplies are stocked and well-maintained.
  • Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team, including coordinators, vendors, and physicians, to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Assist with bone density scans and interventional procedures such as needle localizations and stereotactic biopsies, if trained.
  • Adhere to the ALARA principle for radiation protection.
  • Perform quality assurance activities in line with MQSA guidelines.
  • Participate in employee orientation and training as a preceptor if requested.
  • Demonstrate reliability and accountability, including providing notice for any absences or tardiness.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mammography.
  • Proficiency in performing screening and diagnostic mammography.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform bone density scans and interventional procedures (preferred).
  • Strong communication skills and patient care focus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited course in Radiologic Technology or Mammography.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
  • ARRT (R) and (M) certification.
  • Active state Mammography license.
  • BLS certification.
  • Must meet the ECE requirements to maintain Mammography certification.
  • Must have performed at least 200 mammograms within the last 36 months to meet MQSA requirements.
