JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Behavior Instructional Support Aide - Itinerant REPORTS TO: Instructional Support Teacher JOB GOAL: To assist the teacher and school personnel in identifying and achieving instructional/behavioral objectives and to help students take full advantage of the instructional program while consistently implementing behavior support plans for children with severe behavior impairments MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) years of college level education; Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate preferred
- Successful completion of the forty (40) hour Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training or the ability to complete the forty (40) hour RBT training within three (3) months of employment
- Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred • Knowledge and understanding of academic and behavioral strategies and techniques to assist students in learning
- Physically able to participate in restraint training and participate in restraint of a student, if needed
- Ability to use current technology
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner • Ability to meet suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, mission, goals, and priorities Under the direction of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or teacher, collects data for tracking behavior as per individual plans and implementing strategies recommended by the BCBA and/or teacher Works with identified student(s) to maintain behavioral control and implement behavior plans as needed Works with small groups of students to reinforce learning initially introduced by the teacher Guides independent study, enrichment work, and corrective instruction directed by the teacher Assists individual students who need special attention and/or assistance 7. Assists the teacher in preparing instructional materials for classroom use 8. Assists with the feeding, positioning, lifting, or moving of students as needed 9. Assists with toileting of students, including cleaning and changing as needed 10. Assists with routine classroom clerical duties Assists individual students and/or teachers with the use of assistive technology/adaptive devices and with writing as needed Assists in the supervision of students who participate in special class activities 13. Participates in restraint training and is able to restrain a student as needed 14. Supervises students who may need to leave the classroom setting to complete independent work or to navigate around the school Helps with extra duties related to the supervision of students (lunch periods, bus duties, assemblies, field trips, etc.) Adheres to local Board policies, administrative procedures, and other like directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws Performs other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s) This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position.
