POSITION TITLE: Aide - InstructionalEXEMPTION STATUS: Non ExemptREPORTS TO: PrincipalTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 monthsHOURLY SALARY RANGE: Minimum $11.25, Midpoint $14.07, Maximum $16.88Primary Purpose:Provide instructional support services. Assist the teacher in instruction, preparation, and management of classroom activities. Work under the direct supervision of the teacher(s).Qualifications:Education/CertificationAssociate Degree, two years of study (48 college hours) at an institute of higher learning, or meet formal academic assessmentValid Texas educational aide certificateSpecial Knowledge/SkillsAbility to assist with classroom instructionAbility to work well with childrenEffective communication (verbal and written), organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to speak and write Spanish, preferredExperience:Experience working with childrenMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional Strategies
  • Provide direct instruction to students as assigned by the teacher and work with individual students and small groups.
  • Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays, administering and scoring assignments and assessments, preparing records and reports, and maintaining a neat and orderly learning environment.
  • Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers, as needed.
  • Assist in conducting parent involvement activities.
Student Management
  • Assist with classroom management.
  • Supervise students throughout the day, before and after school, inside and outside the classroom, in the cafeteria, in the hallway, at drop-off/pick-up locations, on the bus, on the playground, on field trips, and at other times and locations as assigned.
  • Keep the teacher informed of special needs and issues of individual students.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Maintain familiarity with district curriculum and initiatives to better serve the needs of students.
  • Participate in professional learning activities to improve job-related skills and demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and special events as assigned.
Communication
  • Establish and maintain appropriate communication and a professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the district and demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible as set out in the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Articulate the district's mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student and district information.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard classroom equipment, computer, peripherals, other electronic devices
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting/standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking; frequent repetitive hand motions, keyboarding, use of mouse, wrist flexion/extension
  • Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance, 30-55 pounds with assistance, and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
  • Environment: Work inside and outside; regular exposure to noise; occasional exposure to contagious diseases
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruption
