AileyII-Lighting & Sound SupervisorAlvin Ailey Dance Foundation is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as our Ailey II Lighting & Sound Supervisor reporting to the AileyII Company Manager within the AileyII Production department.Position Summary:Ailey II, the junior company of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Lighting and Sound Supervisor. This position is responsible for all lighting and sound elements of Ailey II domestic and international tours, performances, outreach programs, and special events. The Lighting and Sound Supervisor will be responsible for recreating the lighting and sound designs for all performances. This position will report to Ailey II Company Manager.The ideal candidate will possess strong communication, time management skills, and interpersonal skills. He/she must demonstrate a dedicated work ethic and must be willing and able to carry out duties as needed to ensure a safe and positive environment for the dancers. He/she must have the ability to adapt to a wide range of venue types and technical capabilities and ensure the highest quality lighting and sound possible with the resources available. He/she must demonstrate a history of successful teamwork in a small work group environment where mutual support, flexibility, and trust are key factors of a productive and friendly work environment. Prior experience in a similar position is required. Sylvia Waters was selected by Mr. Ailey to be the company's founding Artistic Director, serving in that role for the company's first 38 seasons and helping Ailey II to flourish into one of the most popular modern dance companies, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs.In September 2021, Francesca Harper stepped into the role of Artistic Director of Ailey II. Ms. Harper-who trained at The Ailey School and who has choreographed for both Ailey companies-brings a fresh perspective to Mr. Ailey's legacy, while nurturing new creative voices and propelling the company forward.Responsibilities:
- Communicate all lighting and sound details to Stage Manager and Company Manager.
- Work with choreographers, lighting designers, and composers to deliver their artistic vision with the resources available.
- Participate in truck pack and unpack at warehouse and at all performance venues.
Lighting
- Prepare and maintain repertory lighting plots and associated paperwork for all performance engagements necessary such as but not limited to: plans, sections, focus charts, instrument schedules, channel hookups, magic sheets, line set schedules, rental shop orders.
- Operate lighting consoles when necessary (ETC Express, ION, EOS, Strand 520i).
- Coordinate and manage lighting plot based on programming needs of each individual venue/or performance.
- Coordinate hang and call focus of light plot with local crew.
- Maintain and create CAD (Vectorworks) files and drawings for all production related items (e.g., lighting plots, line schedule, lightwright hookups, ground plans, elevations, sections, color change books).
- Create lighting tracking sheets, ballet info sheets and detailed focus charts for all new works.
- Create and maintain lighting show files for each touring season.
- Develop and maintain important relationships with associated vendors.
- Develop and maintain high level of quality and aesthetic of lighting designs.
- Make adjustments to lighting designs based on venue challenges with full understanding of choreographer and designer's vision.
Sound
- Create, maintain and program QLab sound files for active Ailey II repertory.
- Create and maintain performance quality audio library all ballets.
- Coordinate and supervise set up of sound systems for performance including monitors for the dancers and sound check for all performances.
- Operate sound equipment when necessary, including audio consoles.
- Facilitate setup of performance and communication systems including; headsets & paging system. Manage portable sound system for rehearsals and class.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and/or a minimum of four years of live theater, touring dance, concerts, and/or production experience.
- Functional competencies in use and operation of production lighting and sound equipment.
- Computer skills: Mac OS X, Windows OS, MS Office, Vectorworks 14, Lightwright 5, ETC offline and console programming software, moving light programming knowledge, AVID Protools, QLab, and Digital Sound Consoles.
- Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work graciously in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with diplomacy and tact.
- Experience working with the stagehands in union and non-union environments.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.
- Valid Passport and Drivers License
