  • Firefighter starting pay is $56,742.00.
  • Paramedic starting pay is 59,579.40.

Competitive pay and benefits package is offered!Job Summary: This is skilled firefighting work in combating, extinguishing, and preventing aircraft, structural, ground equipment and other fires: in answering emergency calls, and in operation and maintenance of fire department equipment, apparatus and station facilities. Work involves training for and participating in duties of protecting life and property by firefighting and rescue activities, usually under close supervision. Employees of this class are required to learn and participate in the operation of apparatus and the performance of hazardous tasks under such handicaps as smoke and cramped surroundings. Although firefighting and rescue work are the most difficult and responsible areas of activity, the major portion of time is spent in routine duties in the care and maintenance of fire department property and equipment, training and studying methods, techniques, and organization. The Firefighter, as a crew member, will follow the leadership of the department in all the orders and written policies and procedures and all other written orders.Essential Functions:
  • Responds to all calls dispatched to, both on and off Airport property.
  • Respond to medical emergencies involving airport patrons and/or employees and provide EMS services commiserate to the appropriate level of training.
  • Responsible for driving emergency vehicles, navigating, operating the audible warning devices, listening to and responding to radio communications.
  • Maintaining safe work practices and compliance with company, client, airport and governmental agency policies, rules, standards, and regulations, communicating any deficiencies and recommendations for correction to the Fire Chief.
  • Ensure the station apparatus, equipment and spare equipment are always maintained in good condition and ready for service.
  • Responsible for ensuring all daily, weekly, semi-annual and annual vehicle and equipment inspections are completed.
  • Perform inspections of buildings, structures, fueling facilities and fueling vehicles for fire safety hazards and the elimination of such hazards.
  • Responsible for prompt and proper completion of required reports.
  • Attend required training classes and train other employees/airport tenants as needed.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Shift Captain/Fire Chief, as the scope of the client services requires or broadens.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to carry out oral and written directions.
  • Ability to prepare reports on the handling of routine or emergency duties.
  • Must demonstrate good character appropriate to the requirements of the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups using good oral, written, and listening skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in determining the appropriate action to be taken relating to job responsibilities.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties, to include all client and airport co-employees.
  • Must present an appearance consistent with other employee appearance standards.
  • Must be able to work any shift assigned, including nights, holidays and weekends to include scheduled and unscheduled overtime and as needed on an emergency basis.
  • Must pass airfield/customer driving test; and obtain/maintain Ramp, Apron, and Airfield driving clearances as required.
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation and an employment history that meets the requirements of 49 CFR 1542.209.
Education, Qualifications, and Experience Necessary:
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Valid state driver's license throughout the employee's term of employment. DUI within past 3 years is a disqualifier.
  • Must be able to speak and understand English (verbal and written).
  • Know and understand fire suppression, prevention, and combat (tactical) techniques as it applies to aircraft.
  • Must meet local standards pertaining to qualifications and training.
Certifications & Licenses:
  • Must have NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
  • Must be certified as an NFPA 1001 Firefighter II (State / IFSAC / Pro-Board)
  • Must be certified to the NFPA 472, Hazardous Materials-Operations (State / IFSAC / Pro-Board)
  • Must be certified as an NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter (State / IFSAC / Pro-Board) or completion of an FAA 40-hour approved course with current annual burn.
  • Must be certified as an Iowa State EMT or higher certification at time of hire. Must maintain the EMS certification throughout term of employment.
