Assists with enforcement of airport security code to ensure citizen safety. Conducts investigations of criminal offenses, patrols public and restricted areas, and screens passengers.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summaryof the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.* Responds to calls for police service to all locations on the airport; makes preliminary investigations of criminal offenses; assists citizens and passengers to minimize inconveniences.* Assists with lost and disabled vehicles; enforces airport code and traffic regulations.* Patrols public and restricted areas in support of Airport Security Program.* Provides law enforcement support to the passenger and baggage screening process.* Enforces federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and resolutions, making arrests and issuing citations as appropriate.* Patrols terminal parking areas to prevent criminal acts against employees and passengers, property, and vehicles; apprehends violators.* Attends training courses providing classroom and field instruction in police procedures, techniques, and laws including lectures, practical demonstrations, and participation in courses covering areas such as criminal and traffic laws and airport ordinances and use of weapons.* Conducts daily airfield inspections and responds to aircraft emergency landings (ALERTS).* Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.* Performs related work as required.COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIESKnowledge of:* Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software* Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation* Knowledge of the Airport Security Program* Knowledge of the Texas code of criminal procedure* Knowledge of Texas traffic code and City ordinances* Knowledge of the Code of Criminal ProceduresSkills and Abilities:* Skill in organization and time management* Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships* Ability to meet schedules and deadlines of the work* Ability to take and follow directions from supervisor.* Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries* Ability to enforce laws* Ability to respond to emergencies* Ability to give directions to and gain compliance from assigned staff.* Ability to perform strenuous work and routine work.* Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.* Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.* Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.* Ability to comply with all City of Laredo's policies and procedures.* Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of this position.WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSPhysical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposures* Office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.* Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Required Certifications or License* Peace Officer certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)The following Licenses and Certifications that must be obtained after employment. Continued employment is contingent on successfully obtaining required certification(s) and/or license(s) within the specified period of time indicated above from time of hire.* Adult CPR and First Aid Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.* Airfield Certification must be obtained within three (3) months of employment.Valid Texas Driver License.
