Position Title: Education Coordinator

Program: Head Start/Early Head Start

General Purpose:

The Education Coordinator supports teaching staff by providing ongoing professional development, building their teaching skills, and assisting them in applying new knowledge. This position is responsible for the education and early childhood development content area as stated in the Head Start Program Performance Standards Part 1302 - Subpart C, Subpart G - Transition Services. This includes the implementation of an early childhood curriculum and providing standards recognized best practices in the field of early childhood education.

Summary Responsibilities:

* Supports the philosophy and vision of the CREC Head Start.

* Works with teachers to find effective ways to deal with behavioral issues in the classroom.

* Ensures timely communication of pertinent data from staff, management, HSPS, and other regulatory entities and acts as a conduit of two-way communication.

* Assists the Education & Disabilities Specialist in content area planning, development, operation, data management, record-keeping and monitoring.

* Assists teaching staff in understanding and interpreting child observation data and establishing appropriate individual child goals based on knowledge of child development.

* Applies Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) to deliver coaching strategies

* Develops coaching plans with each teachers on caseload and document progress on each visit.

* Conducts observations using CLASS, QCIT and locally designed tools to ensure that school readiness goals for enrolled children are addressed with appropriate individualized activities.

* Provides training and technical assistance to teaching staff in a supportive, instructive and non-judgmental way.

* Plans for and equips indoor and outdoor areas to meet children's developmental and safety needs in accordance with budgetary requirements in coordination with Site Supervisor.

* Assists classroom staff in a system for maintaining an inventory of classroom materials and supplies that is checked at least annually.

* Observes individual children as requested by teachers and provides suggestions for behavior management and educational programming.Provides input for teaching staff development; assists Site Supervisor in goals and objectives for professional development plans as needed.

* Determines appropriate training needs to meet the program goals and objectives.

* Participates in training opportunities, state meetings, committees and task forces as appropriate.

* Ensures child screenings occur as required.

* Understands, generates and documents in-kind and other allowable costs applied toward the non-federal share requirement.

* Reacts positively and professionally to changes within the school system.

* Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.

* Implements a plan for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of activities within the program.

* Responsible for understanding Head Start Performance Standards and local regulations.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's or advanced degree in early childhood education or related field.

* Minimum of 5 years' experience in teaching children birth to five years.

* Knowledge of Head Start / Early Head Start preferred.

* Ability to provide training in principles of child development and School Readiness.

* Understanding of various cultural backgrounds of Head Start families.

* CLASS Reliable Observer, or obtain within 6 months of hire.

* Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

* Must have a valid driver's license and access to reliable. Local travel between sites required.

* Skill in computer technology, including Outlook, Excel, Word, Publisher and PowerPoint.

* Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; ability to work with deadlines.

* Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, community, private partners and external agencies and to make informed and objective decisions

* Ability to compile and analyze data and make effective recommendations.
