Job Description:
Position: 6-12 grade Counselor
Responsible To: Building Administrator(s)
Type Position: Certified
Qualifications:
Master of Education Degree in Counseling; Master of Science Degree in Counseling.
JOB GOAL:
Counsels individuals and provides group educational service.
Term Of Employment:
10 month employee. Salary to be established by the Board of Education.
Paid Time Off (PTO):
In accordance with the district adopted paid holiday schedule and vacation policy
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with MPS Board of Education's Certified Employee Evaluation and DESE guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Provides support services for students in the areas of academic programs, team teaching, school rules, and other matters.
* Assesses and counsels students based on observations, conversations, and test results.
* Provides personal counseling for students and groups to help them learn greater self-understanding, acceptance of responsibility, and better decision-making skills.
* Provides group counseling for interaction, communication, and support skill development.
* Administers tests and INTERPRETS results in areas such as organization, memory skills, aptitude, and preferences.
* Serves as building 504 coordinator.
* Conducts evening conferences for support groups, test interpretations with parents, new student orientation/with parents.Consults with parents and teachers.
* Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
Must be willing to learn and comply with district initiatives that involve technical and program skills. Such as but not limited to Student Information Systems (SIS) and online curriculums, as well as proficiency with computer based communication expectations.
Attendance:
Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Must follow district policy on employee absences.
Computation:
Ability to define problems, and prioritize job tasks.
Hearing:
Must be able to hear a conversation in a noisy environment .
Language:
An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:
* Communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English.
* Read, analyze and interpret administrative correspondence and directives as well as Board policy and handbooks.
* Keep student information confidential according to FERPA when required by law, except for from the building administration.
Physical Demands:
An individual who holds this position requires some lifting of files and storage containers. Must be able to attend meetings in designated areas. Frequently required to stand, walk, sit and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal.
Technology:
Basic computer skills, ability to learn new programs quickly, and manage the following: Basic Computer Word Processing, and Google Suites.
