6-8 Instructional Specialist (1 Year Only)

General Description

The primary function of the Instructional Specialist is to administer diagnostic assessment and provide targeted, high quality math and reading instruction to students in the WINN block and promote effective classroom teaching practices to increase student achievement.

Qualifications:

Valid CT State Teaching Certificate; ELA and/or Math Preferred

Master's Degree

Successful experience as a classroom teacher

Successful experience as a reading or math specialist preferred

Reports to: Building Principal

Performance Expectations and Responsibilities:

* Support the district goals with direction and support of the Curriculum Coordinator and building goals with the direction and support of the building principal

* Participate in consistent PD and instructional specialist's staff meetings coordinated by the Curriculum Coordinator

* Contributes as a lead member of the SRBI team

* Supports in the development of the school improvement plan

* Assists with school data analysis to track student achievement

* Supports with the planning and administration of district assessments

* Administers diagnostic assessments to students

* Creates goals and instructional plans for all students in the WINN block

* Provides targeted, high quality instruction to students in the WINN block

* Administers progress monitoring assessments to students in tier II and III

* Supporting in planning and presenting of professional development during staff meetings, and PLCs

Necessary Skills:

* Knowledge of NPS instructional components

* Knowledge of research and evidence around high quality instruction

* Knowledge of all curricular programs and assessments

* Deep knowledge and understanding of SRBI

* Ability to communicate well with others

* Ability to have effective, difficult conversations

* Ability to follow policy and procedures

* Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; and, work well in group problem-solving situations.

* Ability to demonstrate the willingness to make decisions and include the appropriate people in decision-making

* Ability to adapt to change in the work environment; manage competing demands; change approach or method to best fit situation; and able to deal with frequent change

* Proficient with the use of technology for data collection; personal management; curriculum work

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be determined by the contract between the Norwich Board of Education and the Norwich Teachers League

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support services by the Building Principal, Curriculum Coordinator and/or Assistant Superintendent
