Job Title: Alternative Education TeacherContract Length: 191 contract daysFLSA Status: ExemptJob SummaryPosition is responsible for creating a classroom environment to develop competencies and an understanding in the structure of all subject areas; to motivate each pupil to apply the knowledge, understanding and skills; to prepare each student to meet the Virginia SOL standards.Essential Duties
- Works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors and related service providers in the over-all education plan for students enrolled in the alternative education setting.
- Assists in the development and implementation of an individual education services and transition plans for students enrolled in the alternative education setting.
- Instructs students in a program of study which meets stated objectives and prepared students to master grade level standards.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of Accomack County Public Schools.
- In collaboration with the teacher of record, develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division's basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course/SOL standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage students.
