Alternative Setting FacilitatorThe Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1600 students from PreK-12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school. Over 92% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Our system grew out of Guadalupe Centers' educational programming. Guadalupe Centers is the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the US since 1919. Summary:We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Alternative Setting Facilitator to join our team. As an Alternative Setting Facilitator, you will be responsible for providing support and guidance to students placed in alternative placement rooms due to long-term suspensions. Your primary focus will be on assisting students enrolled in the alternative setting programs, ensuring they have the necessary resources and guidance to continue their education while in the alternative setting.As an Alternative Setting Facilitator, you will play a crucial role in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for students who may be facing challenges. Your patience, empathy, and ability to build strong relationships will be essential in helping these students overcome obstacles and achieve their academic goals.Reports To: Building PrincipalRequired Skills/Abilities:
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and support staff to identify students on long-term suspensions who are suitable for placement in the alternative setting.
  • Provide direct support and supervision to students in the alternative placement rooms, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Familiarize yourself with the alternative setting programs and their curricula to assist students in navigating the online learning platform.
  • Facilitate student engagement in their coursework, addressing any questions or concerns they may have and providing guidance when needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and behavior, reporting any significant observations to the appropriate school staff.
  • Implement behavior management strategies and interventions to create a structured and positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other educational professionals, such as counselors and social workers, to address the individual needs of students and provide appropriate support.
  • Foster a respectful and inclusive environment that encourages student growth, positive communication, and conflict resolution.
  • Assist students in setting academic goals and monitoring their progress, providing feedback and encouragement along the way.
  • Collaborate with the Social Worker and other staff to organize and facilitate group activities, discussions, and projects to promote social interaction and peer learning among students.
  • Stay up to date with educational best practices and resources, seeking professional development opportunities to enhance your skills as an Alternative Setting Facilitator.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 60 college hours required, associates degree, counseling, or a related field (preferred).
  • Bilingual ability, English required and Spanish preferred.
  • Experience working with students in an educational or youth development setting.
  • Knowledge of alternative education programs and strategies for supporting students with behavioral challenges. (preferred)
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms, preferably Launch/Edmentum, and ability to provide technical assistance. (preferred)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to establish rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, exercising patience and empathy.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage student records, attendance, and progress.
  • Knowledge of behavior management techniques and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students and the educational program.
  • Understanding of student privacy laws and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • First aid and CPR certification (preferred).
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the school and classroom.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
