Alumni Affairs Specialist - Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism**POSITION DETAILS**The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S.,it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism. As the profession rapidly reinvents itself for the digital age, the Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the tools to find stories and tell them effectively - using print, broadcast, visual, interactive, and social media. The school offers two master's degree programs: a Master of Arts in Journalism and the nation's first M.A. in Engagement Journalism.Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Management and Student Success, this position assists in managing all aspects of alumni relationships and engagement with the institution. The Assistant Director supports leadership and management of alum engagement, including events, communications, homecoming, the Alumni Board, and related Councils. Working within the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism framework, this individual should be creative, strategic, and detail-oriented.Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Proactively assess current initiatives for program and activity improvement;- Assists in implementing a strategic plan to engage alums and promote their participation in school events and programs;- Maintains an alum database, collaborating with IT and Student Affairs to ensure accurate and up-to-date class records (biographical, contact, historical career information, and impact on the industry).- Assists in developing programming to support alums in their career development;- Tracks and analyzes data to assess outcomes of alumni events and activities;- Creates and maintains the quarterly alumni affairs newsletter;- Works collaboratively with other areas of the school to promote and maintain alumni participation in various initiatives such as student recruitment;- Establishes and cultivates relationships with a wide range of alums locally, regionally, and nationally; maintain regular communication via direct contact, email, alum web pages, and print publications.- Assist in coordinating, planning, and implementing alum event programs, including, but not limited to, homecoming and panel discussions.- Assist in maintaining the NewmarkConnects Network, a professional mentoring and networking platform for the entire Newmark J-School community.- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean.All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 70% of their work time. For full-time staff, this is equivalent to 7 out of 10 days of in-person work in a two-week period (e.g., 7 days in-person, 3 days remote). Remote days must be pre-approved by the direct supervisor. This hybrid work schedule is subject to change.**QUALIFICATIONS**Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.A preferred candidate should have:- Two (2) years related experience, ideally in alumni affairs, career coaching, or education, are required.- Superior relationship management skills.- Strong event planning and program management skills.- Highly organized and detail-oriented.- Quick learner and proactive problem solver.- Salesforce and PeopleGrove experience.- Availability to work some evenings and weekends to staff alumni events.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
