The full pay range is $35,597.23 - $51,772.70.Position Summary:Under the direction of the Fire Chief, courteously, professionally, and compassionately greets and responds to ambulance patient inquiries by phone, email, or at the counter. Respond to claim/billing inquiries from medical providers, insurance companies, attorneys, the general public, and City departments. Prepare, process, and maintain records, payments, and collections. Perform responsible clerical and accounting duties related to patient accounts. Process collection of delinquent accounts; compile various reports containing multiple data sources. Review public records daily for obituary and probate information. Essential Functions:Perform accurate clerical and accounting duties related to ambulance billing accounts for the City of Lewiston.Balance daily payment and adjustment reports. Reconciles daily and monthly financial reports to balance to City's General Ledger.Perform necessary procedures to collect payment on accounts. Process collection of delinquent accounts according to established procedures; prepare and submit delinquent accounts to a collection agency as assigned.Initiate telephone, email, and written correspondence with patients, medical providers, and insurance companies to verify information.Respond to billing inquiries from patients, medical providers, insurance companies, attorneys, the public, and City departments with confidence and professionalism; perform research into issues as required.Assist ambulance billing specialist with automated billing invoices according to established timelines. Answer phones, greet the public, and communicate and listen to customers effectively to assist them with resolving complaints, and providing technical interpretation, and information.Start up, close out, and balance cashiering accounting system daily; receive and process monetary payments made to the City through the cashiering system. Ensure efficient workflow and office operations; accurately maintain patient healthcare information according to procedure and HIPAA compliance. Compile ambulance account information as needed, including detailed reports for management.Work closely with City Fire Department personnel to obtain patient healthcare information and be involved in internal controls and processes.Attend healthcare seminars/meetings periodically to keep current on changing billing requirements and industry changes.Complete provider enrollments for multiple insurances.Must learn medical terminology, ICD10 codes, and insurance company rules and regulations.Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress and offers suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing procedures for efficiency. Perform other duties as assigned. Possess a valid driver's license, with acceptable driving record. Must be able to learn a basic knowledge of Emergency Medical Services, Medical Terminology, EMS Procedures, EMS Treatments, and ICD10 coding. Must successfully pass the City of Lewiston background check process which includes reference checks, credit and criminal history checks, driving record checks, and drug testing.Knowledge & Abilities:Possess working knowledge of general business/medical office practices, telephone etiquette, equipment, computer operations, record keeping, data entry, and basic filing. Demonstrated proficiency in database, word processing, and spreadsheet software applications. Advanced customer service skills, with the ability to handle difficult customers and communicate effectively in person or by telephone.Understand and comply with codes, policies, and procedures; interpret and explain ambulance billing policies and procedures. Perform intermediate mathematical calculations, read and comprehend written documents, and follow oral instructions. Strong grammar and spelling skills.Work cooperatively with all City employees, the public, and other organizations. Communicate clearly and professionally in the English language. Display an attitude of cooperation; complete assignments in a timely fashion; work in an environment with frequent interruptions; plan, organize, and prioritize work assignments. Maintain prompt and regular attendance and perform all essential and marginal functions accurately and timely.Maintain confidentiality of information and records according to HIPAA compliance regulations.Ability to work independently with little direction. Sufficient body mobility, flexibility, balance, and vision with or without reasonable accommodations to perform duties in an office environment; sufficient, dexterity of hand and fingers to operate a computer or related equipment.Working Conditions:Office environment is subject to considerable distractions and noise from frequent interruptions and office activities; and extensive interaction with the public, including individuals that may be rude or discourteous. Physical activities include sitting, standing, reaching, operating a computer, calculator, or other office equipment for extended, and non-continuous periods, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally bending at the waist, moderate lifting up to 25 pounds, and hearing and speaking to exchange information.
