Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Ambulatory Care Tech for NJMS- Pediatrics- Division of Adolescent & Young Adult Medicine (D.A.Y.A.M.) . The Ambulatory Care Technician (ACT) is to provide medical assistance to nurses and physicians in the overall care of patients, including technical procedures such as phlebotomy and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections. The ACT functions under the direct supervision and authority of the physician/APN when performing clinical tasks during patient care. The ACT must demonstrate competency in all skills related to the performance of patient care. This position assists with administrative duties related to family planning grants including data collection, entry, and extraction. The ACT maintains an inventory of examination/procedure room supplies, assists in the organization of efficient patient flow, and organizes the clinic environment to assure patient safety. The ACT demonstrates problem-solving skills as they relate to patient care activities, provides guidance for and acts as a role model for Medical Assistants in the clinical area. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
* Participates in the care of the patient, under the direct supervision of the Physician/APN and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
* In close partnership with health care and management team, assures smooth and efficient patient flow and clinical operation.
* Participates in staff meetings by providing constructive input and facilitating problem solving.
* Schedules patient appointments, including outside physicians and hospital/ancillary services.
* Greets patients and answers telephones, takes messages and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
* Demonstrates knowledge of and verifies patient insurance benefits and obtains precertification (if needed) for services to be provided within grant policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
* Graduation of a post-secondary medical assisting education program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
* Current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT). Must have attained a satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in the administration of intramuscular and subcutaneous injection techniques.
Certifications/Licenses
* Current certification from the Certifying Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or registration from the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
* Phlebotomist certification.
* CPR certification.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Computer literacy with competence in Microsoft Office components with proficiency in Excel required.
* Demonstrated ability to speak clearly, write proficiently. Knowledge of Newark community preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in well woman health/family planning and STI/HIV care and treatment preferred. Training and certification will be provided within the first year of employment if necessary.
* Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
* At least one (1) year of related experience in an adolescent/gyn medical office setting preferred.
