AIMS: Alternative Investments & Manager Selection

The Alternative Investments & Manager Selection Group (AIMS or the Group) resides within AMD (Asset Management Division) and is Goldman Sachs' dedicated manager selection business, covering solutions across private equity, real estate, credit/fixed income, ESG integrated and impact strategies, public equity, and hedge funds. We manage globally diversified programs, targeted sector-specific strategies, customized portfolios, and a range of advisory services. Our investors generally access opportunities through new fund commitments, secondary market investments, co-investments, seed capital investments, investment manager equity/ revenue share stakes, or fund of fund solutions. The AIMS Group is one of the world's broadest, deepest, and longest-standing open-architecture programs, investing or advising on over $250bn.

AIMS Imprint

AIMS Imprint is the ESG and impact investment group in AIMS with a mandate to build and manage client portfolios that generate market rate returns and tangible environmental and/or social impact. AIMS Imprint invests across public and private markets through third party managers and co-investments alongside managers. The investment strategy spans asset classes including private equity, real assets, private credit, public equity, fixed income and hedge funds. AIMS Imprint specializes in nine private market investment themes including Clean Energy, Sustainable Transport, Education, Health, Financial Inclusion, Food & Agriculture, Waste & Materials, Ecosystem Services and Communities. Imprint was founded in 2008 and acquired by Goldman Sachs in 2015, as part of the firms commitment to ESG and impact investing.

AIMS is seeking an Impact and ESG Associate to help drive efforts on ESG and Impact data collection, analysis and reporting across public and private markets. The Associate would work closely with AIMS Imprint investment teams to analyze ESG and impact characteristics of opportunities and engage with investees on best practices. The Associate would help translate ESG and impact data into relevant external reporting including annual client impact reports as well as help inform internal frameworks and regulatory responses.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Principal Responsibilities

  • Support development of standardized ESG and impact reporting across asset classes
  • Work with investment teams to ensure Imprint is receiving high quality ESG and impact data from investees
  • Engage directly with managers to communicate ESG and impact data expectations and requests, and how to calculate relevant impact metrics, as required
  • Develop a process for auditing, validating, and assuring the quality of the data provided and work with deal teams and portfolio companies to manage this process
  • Play primary role in ESG and impact reporting content creation
  • Work to understand how data provided informs reporting for regulations and frameworks and as regulatory requirements are updated; ensure updated information is requested from portfolio companies and managers
  • Work with Engineering and Strats to capture ESG and impact data through a streamlined tool
  • Help with roll-out of selected ESG and impact data collection tool by providing trainings for deal teams, managers, and portfolio companies
  • Utilize data provided to coordinate responses for AIMS UNPRI submission
  • Present impact insights to clients and internal stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical, communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills to manage various requirements into one synchronized process across various stakeholders
  • Attention to detailproven experience of delivering high levels of accuracy
  • Knowledge and understanding of Excel, PowerPoint and Word and adaptability to learn other software products
  • Candidate must be a team player and self-motivated, demonstrating a willingness to take on more responsibility over time
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Energy Management, Accounting, Sustainability, Finance, or Business Administration preferred
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in investing, finance, data analytics, sustainability, energy management, or related fields
  • Carbon accounting experience, preferred
  • Familiar with key ESG Standards including GRI, TCFD, UNPRI, SFDR, SASB etc., preferred
