What You Will Do

At Freshpet, the Analytical Lab Technician is responsible for the sampling, testing and inspection of finished products that adhere to the Freshpet's standards and specifications.

How You Will Make an Impact

* Execution of Raw Materials Sampling and Testing Program and Finished Product Sampling and Testing Program

* Maintain current Certificate of Analysis (COA) filings. Review incoming COAs for adherence to testing and shelf-life specifications

* Analytical equipment troubleshooting and routine maintenance. Schedule and perform instrument calibrations

* Management of Quality Laboratory supplies.

* Familiarization with Freshpet HACCP and food safety programs for all ingredients, packaging and finished goods

* Carry-out Ingredient and Packaging Releases, within Freshpet's warehouse management system

* Utilize various analytical techniques and methodologies including Moisture, Fat and Protein analysis, Texture analysis, basic microbiology testing and additional analyses as needed

* Assist in method and specification development/revisions

* Lead investigation and assist with completion of CAPA reports

* Directly interact with operations and quality team personnel, in documenting any nonconforming events

* Assist with consumer complaint investigations

* Coordinate all test activities within the Micro Inclusion Testing Program.

* Provide back-up coverage in Micro Lab when necessary

* Drive continuous improvement activities in sampling and testing programs.

* Assumes additional related responsibilities as necessary

What You Will Bring

Work Experience Requirements

* Intermediate skills in personal computers to work with quality databases, enter and analyze data, read, and author emails

* Understanding, compliance, and enforcement of food Good Manufacturing Practices

* Able to work independently with little direct supervision

* Good interpersonal and communication skills

Education Requirements

* High school diploma plus 4 years industry experience and vocational training in Food Safety/Quality Systems, in food or pet food manufacturing required

* Associate or bachelor's Degree in science-related field (i.e., Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology) with 2+ years of vocational training and industry experience working in Food Safety/Quality Systems, in food or pet food manufacturing highly preferred
