We are looking for an Analytical Scientist to join our Advanced Materials and Chemicals team onsite in Rochester, New York.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for a scientist to apply analytical methodology to understand a variety of matrices and problems. This Chemist is responsible for providing non-routine analytical testing and for researching, developing, and validating new methods and capabilities. Leveraging his or her skills as a scientist and expertise in analytical chemistry, the candidate will play an integral role in providing analytical solutions for a diverse set of projects in support of research, commercialization, and manufacturing problem solving for Kodak and our external clients.
The candidate will need to understand and use a variety of chemical and physical analysis techniques and know how to use the associated instrumentation, computer equipment, and software for these techniques. Excellent documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills will also be needed, along with troubleshooting skills. The candidate must be a dynamic, self-starting, and results-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams. Networking skills, the ability to leverage scientific literature, and contribute innovative ideas are necessary. The successful candidate will be working in a team environment and apply appropriate analytical characterization techniques to understand observable chemical or physicochemical affects leading to a more complete system understanding.
Responsibilities:
Independently perform basic to sophisticated chemical and/or physical analytical analyses.
Interpret and analyze data, draw conclusions, and provide recommendations based on the results.
Apply analytical techniques to assist in understanding manufacturing problems, customer complaints, and research materials. This includes developing an appropriate analysis approach and modifying it as results are obtained.
Using knowledge of theory and underlying scientific principles to develop or enhance methods of analysis for existing products, new R&D formulations, and unknowns.
Author analytical procedures, SOPs, validation documents, as needed.
Make recommendations for new equipment and methodology.
Perform advanced troubleshooting and maintenance/repair on laboratory equipment.
Assure adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
Interact and collaborate with a wide verity of clients, colleagues, project team members, and other lab personnel.
May be responsible for technical supervision, training, or time management of technicians and other lab personnel.
Support the QA/QC production analysis lab within the company for problem-solving assistance and troubleshooting instrumentation and techniques.
Document, report, and present results at internal meetings.
It is a requirement of the role to continuously improve analytical skills and capability. A wide range of equipment is available for cross training.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability and desire to quickly learn or develop new analytical techniques and skills.
Demonstrated aptitude for discerning the best analytical approach that leads to solutions to manufacturing and research problems.
Masters degree or higher degree in Analytical Chemistry PLUS 3-10 years of experience in an analytical lab or relevant discipline OR a PhD with significant experience applying analytical techniques.
Practical and theoretical understanding of modern analytical techniques and instrumentation such as NMR, MS, GC, HPLC and potentially rheology and spectroscopy.
Knowledge of a wide range of analytical techniques including method development and a high degree of expertise in at least two of the following areas: Chromatography, spectroscopy, thermal, physical, mass spectrometry, microscopy.
Excellent documentation and communication skills to interact with clients, colleagues, and other lab personnel.
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work in a team environment.
The ability to work and think both in a team environment and as an independent researcher.
Ability to recognize and troubleshoot instrument and performance issues.
Understanding of reaction mechanisms, kinetics and basic chemical reaction principles a plus.
Some expertise in wet chemistry techniques could be a plus.
