Overview Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a Analytical Toxicologist, Quality Assurance Officer to provide scientific, technical, and programmatic support services for analyses on biological specimens in support of he Defense Health Agency's (DHA) Armed Forces Medical Examiner System (AFMES) at Dover Airforce Base in Delaware. Responsibilities are to ensure that project operations are fully functional while maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. AFMES is a Tri-Service organization, comprised of administrative S-Staff and three (3) integrated Divisions (Forensic Pathology Investigation, DoD DNA Operations, and Forensic Toxicology) whose overall mission is to provide comprehensive and innovative medico-legal services worldwide. AFMES provides mission support to the DoD in the fields of human remains identification from both current and previous conflicts; forensic toxicology; medico-legal death investigations; forensic DNA analytical services; mass- fatality specimen collection and management services; and human reference specimen collection, cataloging, archival, and retrieval repository services. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals. This position is contingent on contract award. Responsibilities Reviews and approves documents. Develops and maintains a centralized documentation system for all records. Oversees raw material control and ensures that vendors meet necessary qualification standards. Releases products once all necessary data is generated. Coordinates all equipment/building validation issues and ensures regulatory compliance. Writes and reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and batch production records. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. Supervisory Responsibilities Direct Supervisor: Direct authority to make decisions on the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities. Qualifications Education and Experience Minimum a Master's degree in toxicology, biochemistry, chemistry, or the physical or biological sciences from an accredited university with at least three (3) years' experience. Or a Bachelor's degree in toxicology, biochemistry, chemistry, or the physical or biological sciences from an accredited university and five (5) years' experience, in which at least three (3) years are in QA. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities QAO cannot participate in the production of data or handling of specimens. QAO shall manage the QA program as specified by DoDI 1010.16, ensuring investigation of all Non-Conforming Events (NCEs), must publish an internal MFR to document issues, make recommendations for corrective actions, maintain local SOPs, and monitor all QC processes, method development, personnel training and certifications, internal/external audits of laboratory processes, overall data review, open and blind proficiency performance, and instrument and drug certification. The QAO must be independent of the Technical Director and must be trained and certified as the QAO within six months of appointment to the position of QAO. Excellent organization, computer, and communication skills Ability to handle multiple priorities US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance. Physical Capabilities Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs. Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods. Work Environment This position will take place primarily in an office setting. Compensation The annual salary range for this position is $88,600-$150,800.
