Our Actuarial team is seeking an Analytics Director to join our growing team in Worcester, MA; Windsor, CT; or remotely. This is a full-time, exempt role.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Analytics Director role will lead the development of data solutions to drive advancements in analytics in support of our Core Commercial and Specialty businesses. These growing and profitable businesses are over $4 billion in written premium and include traditional Small Commercial and Middle Market business as well as a diverse array of Specialty offerings (e.g. Marine, Professional Liability, Management Liability). This position reports to the Chief Pricing Actuary.

The Analytics Director is a key member of the pricing leadership team, working closely with actuarial leaders across business units as well as the broader enterprise data and analytics function. The leader is responsible for the development of our new Commercial Analytics Data Mart as part of our overall data and analytics strategy. In this effort, the Analytics Director will ensure consistency with existing systems and environments and act as a liaison with other areas as needed to effectively execute data and reporting needs. The leader provides overall management and technical oversight to their staff and is expected to take a more hands-on approach where required.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
  • Build, lead, and manage a team of data engineers and analytics consultants, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and data warehouse solutions.
  • Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) and various systems groups to define requirements and create reporting infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements and priorities.
  • Ensure timely and successful delivery of data engineering projects.
  • Develop and implement data engineering best practices and standards.
  • Ability to influence and negotiate the appropriate actions to support the strategic goals of the organization.
  • Drive process improvements and innovation within the Commercial Data team.
  • Responsible for professional development as well as performance and compensation management for the team.

WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in data engineering with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (IE: US Citizen or green card required).
  • Able to direct activities of others, motivate and develop staff.
  • Easily adapts to new or different changing situations, requirements, or priorities.
  • Proven experience in project management and leading technical teams.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and in SQL.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure.
  • Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts and data engineering tools.
  • Experience developing ETL systems and designing data architectures (data warehouse).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
EXTRA POINTS FOR:
  • General insurance knowledge, knowledge of property and casualty industry preferred.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Programming skills in R.
