Job Description:
Position Title: Residential Aide -Part-time on weekends (8am to 4 pm or 4 pm to 12 am)Reports To: Residential Coordinator General Purpose:The Residential Aide s primary goal of this position is to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the residential facility and to assist with the caregiving to the residents.Essential Functions.
  • The RAs are responsible for 24-hour coverage, and work in shifts of 8am to 4pm, 4pm to 12am, and 12am-8am The schedule operates 7 days a week, and all holidays as needed.
  • The RAs should be able to work all shifts (day, evening, overnight and weekends) since coverage must be provided around the clock.
  • The RAs must work effectively with individuals with substance use disorders and mental illness by creating a warm, supportive environment.
  • The RAs interact with clients to promote a friendly supportive but professional atmosphere.
  • The RAs work with clinical and program staff on the health and wellness of residents.
  • The RAs assist clients in following rules and regulations of Anchor House and the Residential Code of Conduct, reporting any problems to Supervisor and/or Primary Counselor and always maintains appropriateness.
  • The RAs act as a model to residents to preserve order and protect property.
  • The RAs manage documents that track daily attendance, weekend passes, contractor sign-in/sign-out; maintain logs, office, and site in an orderly fashion, and more.
  • The RAs collect random toxicology samples for drug and alcohol testing when necessary.
  • The RAs monitor the security cameras during a shift. and cover the operations desk.
  • The RAs Follow emergency protocols and procedures to ensure the well-being of residents during crisis situations as they circulate among residents.
  • RAs communicate with the clinical staff on resident behavior as well as the care of those on the watch list and provide crisis intervention where necessary.
  • The RAs attend monthly staff meetings and scheduled in-service training.
  • RAs ensure that clients adhere to the day-to-day program schedule, tracking attendance as required and monitor participation in program events and activities.
  • RAs complete routine resident and facility checks to ensure that residents are not at risk and that the facility is free of potential hazards (leaks, fire, destruction of property, etc.).
  • RAs report incidents, accidents, and patient concerns to appropriate clinical staff.
  • RAs provide limited de-escalation of conflicts to residents, when necessary until AH Counselors, Recovery Coaches or Directors can be contacted and/or intervene.
  • RAs observe self-medication administration for residential clients in accordance with the physician's prescription, and records client access to their medications in the MAR.
  • RAs check patients in and out of the program daily and verify patient attendance, distribute mail, answer phones, sign in visitors, and search clients upon returning to the facility.
  • RAs ensure the safety, security and integrity of all residents and guests, as well as the physical environment of the facility by monitoring the clients, units, and grounds at all times to ensure the security and safety of each resident and will call 911 when necessary.
  • The RA works with clinical and program staff, on the health and wellness of residents.
  • The RAs provide crisis intervention as needed to maintain residential and facility security.
  • Ras conduct inspections for contraband according to established organizational policy.
  • The RAs conduct inspections to ensure proper attendance is recorded in accordance with OASAS standards and monitor client conduct and overall behavior during their shift.
  • RAs perform hourly check-ins of the facility to ensure that all clients are safe, perform daily and nightly bed counts by physically entering each unit three times nightly, and regularly patrol tenant floors and administrative offices logging all pertinent activity.
  • Monitor common areas, (TV room, laundry room, and cafeteria) to ensure all residents are adhering to schedules and are in proper locations.
  • RAs conduct bed and meal counts and assist with property searches.
  • RAs maintain high visibility in client areas to provide assurance of structure and supervision.
  • Regularly monitors the bathrooms to reduce the instance of clients smoking in these parts.
  • RAs provide timely and effective responses to client emergencies to call 911, including appropriate and effective responses to physical or verbal altercations between clients.
  • Complete incident reports of any unusual occurrences and submit to appropriate supervisors.
  • RAs generate and submit all incident reports, which includes detailed information of the incident, and names of the first responders (i.e., police, ambulance, fire department.)
  • Every 45 minutes while on duty, the house residential aide conducts house/room rounds and records the time and findings in communications logbook on all shifts.
  • RAs keep supervisor informed of all relevant information regarding the residents and the program and report any immediate safety hazards to appropriate supervisory personnel or maintenance personnel.
  • Other duties within the ability and skill set of the position of Residential Aide as deemed necessary for the proper operations of the program.
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
  • At least 1 year work experience in a residential drug treatment setting, a mental health treatment setting and/or similar setting.
  • Crisis intervention ability and good interpersonal skills; high level of maturity and responsibility
Qualifications:
  • Ability to implement and monitor policy and procedure in accordance with regulatory and agency guidelines.
  • Ability to learn Federal and state law/regulation governing substance abuse treatment, including confidentiality, security and privacy of protected health information.
  • Basic keyboard skills and computer literacy (Window based environment knowledge preferred).
  • Flexibility with work schedule
Related Skills or Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to persons with extensive substance use disorder history, HIV/AIDS, and mental health treatment.Strong interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills required. This individual must be able to work effectively as part of a team and function with maturity and ethics with staff and clients.Other Requirements: Bilingual is a plus. Dress Code must model business casual No caps, hoodies, jeans and sneakers or sweats.Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least one year of work experience
  • Dependable & flexible as well as possessing the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent internal, external customer service skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good communication skills both verbally and written including the ability to communicate with all levels of management.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
