JOB SUMMARY:
Work at the LaMaster Dairy Center. Responsible for the care and management of young dairy cattle. Assists withe facilities maintenance and operation of farm equipment and robotic milking system, including some on-call responsibilities. Assist with research and teaching activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
50% - Essential - Animal Management:
Responsible for management of young dairy cattle including feeding, dehorning, and vaccinating. Assists with overall animal health care. Diagnoses and treats animal health problems. Contacts veterinarian in emergencies. Follows timed artificial insemination protocols and artificially inseminates animals. Conforms to recommendations of the Animal Research Committee.
20% - Essential - Facilities Maintenance:
Responsible for management of sand reclamation lane and redressing sand bedding in free-stall barn. Offers support in maintenance and repair of Delaval robotic milking system. Assists with lagoon operations for DHEC compliance.
20% - Essential - Operations:
Able to operate all farm equipment including tractors, trucks, skid steers, loaders, dump trucks, feed wagon, hay grinder, and others as necessary. Works with farm manager to devise strategies for continued farm improvement, including improving economic efficiency. Implements plans.
10% - Essential - Instruction and Research:
Coordinates with farm manager to prepare animals and supplies for research and teaching activities. Assists research and teaching faculty with sample collection and instruction activities. Assists or conducts tours for classes, camps, and visitors in a professional manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: 1st Bachelor's Degree - Animal Husbandry, Agriculture or related field
Work Experience: 1+ years of farm equipment and livestock experience.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education: 2nd Bachelor's Degree - Animal, Dairy, or Veterinary Sciences
Work Experience: 2+ years - of dairy farm experience
Licenses/Certifications: Bovine Artificial Insemination and Dairy Beef Quality Assurance

COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Anticipated Salary Range: $43,000 - $50,000
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL
Normal Operations
Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
