**Who we are and what we do:**

The Cornell University Equine and Nemo Farm Animal Hospital--part of the Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine--offers state-of-the-art patient care for horses, cattle, goats, sheep and pigs and other farm animals. Board-certified specialists, dedicated residents, licensed veterinarian technicians, and supervised students work together to provide the best available surgical care, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and hospitalization for our patients. We are open around-the-clock for emergency and critical care cases, including neonatal intensive care and high-risk pregnancies.

We are seeking an Animal Attendant to work as a part of a team supporting faculty clinicians, licensed veterinary technicians (LVT's), interns, residents, veterinary students and other staff throughout the hospital, providing optimal patient care for our animal patients and their owners.

Specifically, the Animal Attendants will:

* Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with staff, students, LVTs, veterinarians, and clients.

* Play a crucial role in the infection control program to include cleaning and disinfecting all areas including stalls, treatment rooms, breezeway, isolation ward, etc., as well as disinfecting any equipment associated with milking or other animal care related tasks.

* Handle and provide general care to horses, cows, sheep, goats, camelids, and pigs including feed, water, milk, groom, picking hooves and bathing, as needed, as well as bed stalls.

* Stock hay, shavings, grain, total mixed ration (TMR), and personal protective equipment (PPE).

* Provide care to ENFAH-owned animals and keep accurate and up to date records.

* Remove and transport biohazardous waste to the Cornell Medical Waste Facility. In addition, transportation of deceased animals to proper disposal areas, ensuring strict adherence of hospital infection control policies.

* Assist with the loading/unloading of animals, as needed, as well as assist in their transportation to treatment areas for procedures and surgery. This includes movement of down animals and management of down cows in the aquacow.

* Have a general knowledge and skills to perform small repair and assembly jobs using household tools, both manual and power.

* Operate machinery, to include forklift, tractors, etc. to assist with moving pallets, boxes, dumpsters, etc.

The Cornell University Hospital for Animals provides 24-hour care for animals 365 days of the year. The schedule for this position requires flexibility to ensure that adequate patient care and service needs are provided without interruption or exception. The primary shift for this position will be Sunday through Thursday 5am to 1:30pm with one afternoon shift (10a-6:30pm).

A High School diploma and at least a year experience, specifically with large animal handling (horses, cows, pigs, alpacas, llamas, sheep, goats) and/or animal husbandry in a hospital/clinical setting or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Additionally, we seek candidates who:

* Are reliable and can demonstrate a high level of initiative

* Have excellent communication skills;

* Are highly organized with an ability to multi-task;

* Possess an eagerness to learn and grow; and

* Enjoy the physical demands of working with large animals, including prolonged standing, kneeling, mucking stalls, lifting and restraining animals.

Due to the nature of this position rabies vaccinations and titer are required, the cost is covered by department.

This non-exempt position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between Cornell University and United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 2300.
