The Behavioral Associate supports the work of veterinarians, study directors, and clients by performing a range of animal behavior activities, including enrichment, socialization, and behavioral assessments. You will be responsible for addressing on-site behavioral issues in animals and implementing preventive behavior programs.Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with environmental enhancement standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Prepare, distribute, and manage enrichment items for animals
- Identify suitable social partners and perform animal socializations (standard and advanced)
- Assist in maintaining colony data in both paper and electronic formats, in accordance with USDA and company policies
- Track inventory of enrichment items and alert management when supplies need replenishing
- Conduct behavioral observations and assessments on individual animals and groups
- Provide behavioral treatments for animals exhibiting abnormalities
- Deliver operant conditioning training when needed
- Assist in the development and evaluation of new enrichment methods or tools
Qualifications:
- BA/BS preferred; High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior experience with non-human primates or in animal research is a plus
- AALAS certification at the ALAT level is preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Intermediate math skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team under time-sensitive conditions
