Description Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement was established to provide for the health and safety of citizens and protect them from animals and the threat of animals. The mission of Animal Care and Enforcement is not only to enhance the safety of citizens, but also to ensure the proper care and treatment of animals. This is accomplished through animal-related services which reflect our professionalism and a concern for responsible pet ownership. Examples of Duties The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
- Responsible for care, kennel, and cage cleaning, feeding, socializing, exercise, restraining animals, and administering medication as indicated by medical staff.
- Intake of stray and owner surrendered animals in a humane and professional manner.
- Performs euthanasia once receiving CET certificate.
- Assist with daily documentation of animal behavior and health by updating all paper and computer records.
- Assist with daily laundry; washing, drying, folding and putting away in proper storage all clean laundry.
- Empty trash, keeping trash receptacles clean and free of excrement and food. Wipe down and sanitize all surfaces, keep counters and floors clean, and wash dishes.
- Maintain inventory of food supplies; litter, newspapers, daily health sheets, adoption kits, promotional and educational literature; laundry detergent, cleaning and disinfecting solutions; papers towels; and other items used in the daily care of animals.
- Provide excellent customer service, which may include, but is not limited to answering phones, greeting the community, answering basic questions about animals, receiving walk-in donations from the community in a gracious manner, and helping adoptions show animals.
- Maintain professional and appropriate conduct and attire at all times.
- Other duties as assigned by Director.
Minimum Qualifications Completion of High School or GED equivalency and some experience in the care and handling of animals required. The employee selected will work in an environment that includes the potential for:
- Animal bites, diseases and infections
- Coming into contact with cleaning and disinfectant chemicals and unpleasant odors
- Moderate to heavy physical labor in the apprehension of animals and the resultant cleaning and caring
- Work in varying degrees of weather conditions
- Performing animal euthanasia.
This position requires someone that can work varying work schedules including evenings and weekends. A valid driver's license, without restrictions, is required. Additional Information Applicants with less than 5 years of applicable experience will start at 25% of the salary range. The applicant selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
