Animal Care internship
Animal Care Interns at the Roosevelt Park Zoo work directly alongside our zoo keepers, animal managers, educators, and veterinary staff as we strive to continuously provide the best possible care for the animals in a AZA-accredited zoological organization. Interns have the opportunity to gain experience in many aspects of zoo keeping but are not limited to everything from husbandry, nutrition and care, training, maintenance of animal exhibits and areas, an understanding of animals behaviors and welfare/wellness, record keeping, guest interaction, working in a team environment, and working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.
Requirements:
* Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
* Able to tolerate strong odors, dust, hay, animal fur, hair, and dander
* Have completed a minimum of 4 semesters at the start of the internship
* Capable of lifting 50lbs
* Keeper internships consist of a scheduled work week 32-40 hours with working varied shifts from weekdays, weekends, holidays, and evenings with a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks
* Roosevelt Park Zoo does provide a weekly stipend but does not provide housing or transportation
* Acceptance into the program is contingent on passing a background check and negative TB test
