Description Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement was established to provide for the health and safety of citizens and protect them from animals and the threat of animals. The mission of Animal Care and Enforcement is not only to enhance the safety of citizens, but also to ensure the proper care and treatment of animals. This is accomplished through animal-related services which reflect our professionalism and a concern for responsible pet ownership. Examples of Duties The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
  • Complete daily cleanings of animal housing areas (dog and cat enclosures).
  • Maintains a healthy, safe, clean, and pleasant environment and facilities for animals and the public.
  • Assist with maintaining the inventory of assigned rooms.
  • Assist in daily behavior enrichment of the animals in the shelter.
  • Completes spot cleaning of animal areas and shelter as needed throughout the day.
  • Assists with pet interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director.
Minimum Qualifications Completion of high school or GED equivalency and animal handling experience required. Must have strong interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, organizational skills, and ability to multitask. Must be able to move and lift objects and animals up to 50 lbs. A valid driver's license, without restrictions, is required. Additional Information Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range: $16.24/hr The applicant selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.
